The debates have gone on for years obviously, but I do have a legitimate issue with modern games regarding consoles. With the introduction of crossplay, PC players are no longer on an even playing field (well, as even as it could be with drastic performance differences). Now, it can be really hard to tell the difference between a cheater and someone who is receiving a lot of assistance from aim assist.

I don’t think console players should suddenly be told they can’t have aim assist when playing with pc players, but it’s a delicate balance for developers and I don’t think any of them have really gotten it right. I stopped playing apex legends some time ago because the controller players had become so dominant in the higher ranks. It felt like I was at a disadvantage because the game wasn’t offering assistance for me.

I still quote some of the lines and wish I could have that dark intensity he delivered them with.

Agreed. I wouldn’t want to be sold something just plainly generated by someone else, especially if they didn’t put any effort into it.

I have had a pretty good time coming up with stupid prompts with friends, but I think the social aspect is doing the heavy lifting.

Improve it for who?

I’d like to preface that I like AI content for my own amusement and sometimes for convenience. I think it’s neither the best nor the worst thing to ever happen to the world like so many lemmy users seem to.

Current state, most AI generated content (images, video, even text) have some general tells. For text, they tend to lean on certain phrases and formatting. Picture and video both still contain noticeable artifacts that give it away, though that is becoming less prevalent over time. They’re a lot more noticeable when you use the tools yourself and trying to overcome the patterns is difficult without manually intervening.

I think you have to ask yourself what degree of human involvement is the cutoff for you. Is it only 100% non generated content? Even prior to the sudden llm push, that would be really difficult to find. A lot of software, photoshop and predictive text for example, have used machine learning to improve their algorithms for years. It’s not likely you’ll find anything unassisted anymore. What degree of human made modifications AFTER something is generated is enough to consider it good enough? If I start with a generated image but significantly modify it with an image editor to fix issues and finalize the ‘vision’, is that enough?

I personally think you’ll have to create your own compass. Bad content is bad regardless of how it’s made. If you cannot tell the difference if a human made it or a machine, does it really matter?

I think this seems ridiculous, but there is a genuine problem that isn’t being solved in better ways, and a police force who refuse to enter a school under an active threat until it’s too late. I guess something is better than nothing?

Realistically, if someone wanted to put a bunch of nice sounding garbage in front of you to farm clicks/ad impressions, does it really matter how it was made? Like, maybe they used AI to generate a bunch of good sounding text, but what if they just paid some company to have extremely cheap labor from some areas of the world write it instead?

You’d be viewing human written information, but it’s still garbage.

This reads an awful lot like a bunch of less successful devs being jealous. Make a good game and the price is a lot less important.

This is a good post. I wanted to add that the “saving money” aspect of changing the logo also ends up falling flatter when you consider how much existing branding have be changed. That doesn’t happen for free.

I went to a Jonas Brothers concert with my wife a few years ago and I had this same worry. I went, was overwhelmed by how much my ears hurt from how loud the entire crowd of women screaming was, and ended up enjoying the performance, even if I feel like I was sticking out for now being that excited.

There was some solace in seeing other dudes in the crowd, probably feeling exactly like I was
