Great progress towards two-stage and single stage to LEO.

Optic computing is as old as the hills. Looking at the abstract, it appears to be the usual domain-specific architecture, which only does very well in a tailored case.

The rms approach looks better and better.

Build easy automation to deploy your own Lemmy instances.

In hypersonics Russia currently has a lead over China. Obviously they’re going to catch up rather soon.

Russia has that too, nevertheless Kinzhal and Kalibr (which are lower-Mach and don’t carry a hypersonic glider stage) are both about 10 MUSD. Just the costs of JP-10/decilin are considerable already.
Depending on the specs, I’d assume the price to be a few MUSD, never under 100 kUSD.

It’s economics. Materials and even the fuel used by hypersonics (as in maneuvrable high-Mach glide vehicle) have a certain price tag, even in China. 100 kUSD buys far too little of that, even in Russia and China.
Fat nodes on fast low-latency pipes ran on dual-stacked servers 24/7 reduce ephemeral node churn and aid in node and content discovery. Mobile devices on P2P behind CGNAT and other brain damage are more a problem, than a solution.

I’ve read analysts who say that the price is unrealistically low. I think the same.

Lemmy.zip apparently uses Cloudflare.

Lots of small sites were down. Including lemmy.zip

It’s a proxy war with capabilities deliberately throttled on both sides. This is why we all are still alive yet. Let’ hope NATO has the brains to accept its loss gracefully. Or, at least, not escalate beyond limited tactical nuclear exchange.
The GPU used to but they dropped ROCm support for Radeon V and VII some time ago. Have to look at that Strix Halo/AI Max thing I guess.
Is Radeon V with 8 GB HBM worth using today?
zfs has been working nicely for me for many years, for diverse operating systems including zfs all-in-one for internal NFS mount.

Most vintage I have is a dual-socket 1U Sparc.

It would take hours to pull the servers from a mostly full full height rack. And then you’d get a bunch of heavy obsolete servers with zero resale value.

Тhe last time I would have bought an Apple it would have been an Apple ][.
Thanks!
