why do some clothes shrink in the laundry and what can I do to prevent it?

Basically, heat.

Just gentle cold wash and hang to dry (no dryer). If it still shrinks then it’s not a practical garment for you.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.
