For me, it may be that the toilet paper roll needs to have the open end away from the wall. I don’t want to reach under the roll to take a piece! That’s ludicrous!
That or my recent addiction to correcting people when they use “less” when they should use “fewer”
Abolishing the word “automobile” since it mixes Greek and latin.
Oh god, you’d have to abolish sooo many words if you went that way.
The messyness must go tbh.We can’t have this bastardization we live with now😊🤪
Oh my… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_word
Edit: Omg Decathlon. A hybrid word in the Olympics…an event with Greek roots. #Sad
“Television” a ha ha ha !
Hnggnmgg. “sound of blood vessels popping”
I’ve always wondered why so many people have this reaction, rather than seeing it as a cool thing that languages can do. Namely, taking bits from other languages and making them into something new.
I am all for developing languages so that you get new words. And am I really dying on this hill. Hell no😊
Why is it an issue to mix greek and latin ?
Its just a silly notion that you either choose a Greek root or a Latin root for a word. No mixing, just "wrong"😊
It bugs me less than directly translating English expression into Norwegian (my native toung). Some of them just sounds weird
I didn’t know that, I think I know a few modern words that use a mix. Couldn’t come up with one for this comment, though
