This is a genuine question.

I have a hard time with this. My righteous side wants him to face an appropriate sentence, but my pessimistic side thinks this might have set a great example for CEOs to always maintain a level of humanity or face unforseen consequences.

P.S. this topic is highly controversial and I want actual opinions so let’s be civil.

And if you’re a mod, delete this if the post is inappropriate or if it gets too heated.

It’s so confusing to me how you can be pro corporate- and police-reform, yet against vigilantism. Were you paying attention the last 4 years?

We had a broad based popular movement for police reform resulting in a mass popular uprising. People went so far as large scale property destruction in the name of reforming the police. A large majority of the population supported the movement at one point. And what did all that nonviolent effort get us? Not a speck of police reform to be found anywhere in this country.

Saying you want police reform through nonviolent means is a utopian vision, just like star trek. Come back to reality, read some history, the only way to reform these entrenched systems of power is through violence.

      No, no it’s not.

Look at Europe, we don’t have (any of) the problems in the US. Violence begets violence, you’ll just end up in civil war, which at this point I think is a realistic possibility for the US.

Let’s be REAL clear: in war there are only losers, in civil war, everyone gets fucked and destroyed, everyone suffers until one decides to surrender. Ask Yugoslavia how well a civil war ends.

Taking a step back, vigilantism is also not the solution. I get it, it feels good to finally see “them” suffer, but it solves nothing. Just like the violence back a few years ago didn’t solve anything, murdering CEOs won’t solve anything either.

What will work? Mass strikes, civil disobedience. Gandhi had a point, and his non violence kicked the Brits out, something that seemed impossible.

What you need, as step one, is better communication. The Republican party currently spreads lie after lie through Fox News, that crap must be removed first, again, through peaceful means.

      What you really need is
