  • The easy way is to just use tunnelbroker.net, that is what I currently have (this would use one of their assigned net blocks, not the one from the VPS). Set it up on the Pi, set up IP forwarding with appropriate firewall rules, make the Pi serve RA so clients can assign themselves an IP, done (IIRC).

If you want to set up the v6/v4 gateway yourself, I would do this with a /64 you can fully route to your home network like you would get with tunnelbroker.net because then you don’t have to deal with the network split and essentially two gateways for the same network (your Pi and the VPS), because otherwise your clients would assume the VPS is directly reachable since it’s in the same network when in reality it would have to go through the gateway (you would have to set up an extra route in that case on every client, I think). You’d need a second network from Oracle for this.

But it’s pretty much the same thing I would assume plus the setup on the VPS side, make the VPN route your /64 block (or use 6in4 which is what tunnelbroker.net uses), configure IP forwarding on the Pi and the VPS between the VPN interface and local/WAN respectively.

  • Apple

I’ve submitted at least 8 bug reports to them since Oct 2023 (and also many suggestions) through their feedback app. No response to any of them until now. The only closed bugs I closed myself because the problem went away in an update.

I’m pretty sure they don’t have any bug triager whatsoever.

I’ll keep doing it out of spite and because it’s what I do for open-source as well, but I’m really not sure if it has any effect at all.

  • my right index finger expects a shutter button to be located near the top right corner. But the center of Camera Control is 2 inches (5 cm) from the corner.

Oooh, I just know that’s going to massively bother me too. 5cm is a lot. I’d have to try it myself but it already sounds uncomfortable.

  • It’s very funny you say MOV and HEIC are proprietary and then list MP4 considering

    • HEIC is just H.265, the video codec, used to encode images
    • H.264, the codec used for most mp4 files has the same license as H.265 with patent bullshit license fees going on
    • MP4 container is pretty similar to MOV, and is also not an open standard
    • this also means MOV and MP4 can be losslessly converted
    • Apple provides documentation for MOV format free of charge while ISO really wants you to pay to get official standard PDF
    • All this doesn’t matter anyway because ffmpeg can decode everything (though I guess it might matter in bizarro land where software patents are a thing)

Also Android can totally read at least HEIC images. Not sure about MOV. Any of this is also not related to the problem the OP has.

  • They all should, they’re relatively recent phones and at least one of them I’ve sent MMS images to and the other one is on the same carrier as me.

Maybe group chats is just something carriers in Germany don’t support. Nobody in their right mind here sends MMS anyway, it still costs 36 cents or so to send one, for me at least. Pretty much a straight up scam.

  • Yes, and I feel like it’s even more irregular in Russian than just not existing. It’s not used in present tense as a copula, so in most cases where you would expect it in English. However it absolutely exists – быть – and is used like normal verbs in both past and future tense.

For example: «я здесь» – “I am here” (same word order, but this sentence has no verb), but «я был здесь» – “I was here”

And in the cases where it is used in present tense, there is a single conjugation regardless of subject: есть (in contrast to all other verbs, I assume at least, which all have distinct conjugations for 1/2/3rd person singular/plural).

A simple example for this would probably be sentences with “there is”, affirming the existence of something, as in “there is a bathroom” – «ванная есть». Contrived example for sure but I can’t think of something better right now.
