I’ve known plenty of very prepared people over the last 60 years to know that opportunity doesn’t show up for everyone nor can they make it happen. There is always some luck, good or bad, that happens in people’s lives.

Speed limits are not for how fast any particular vehicle and driver could negotiate the road. They are for all the other factors in road use. How many roads/driveways intersect the road, what are the sightlines, what other users (bikes, pedestrians) use the road. Does weather make a difference? How homogeneous are the vehicle types and driving ability of those users? People who speed usually vastly overestimate their abilities to react - and then blame the other guy for what would have been prevented had they been driving at the speed limit.

The only mistake in your sentence is “anymore”. The world has always been too expensive for a large part of the population. Most people from the past generations (in North America) never left their home area because they could never afford to travel. Camping was a thing because that was the only vacation many could afford and it was to a campsite within a couple hours drive. People came over for a dinner of hot dogs & chips because no one could afford to host a fancy meal. The house wasn’t spotless because everyone was working during the day but the point was socializing not one-upping each other. Entire wardrobes (winter & summer) fit into half a standard 8’ closet. If one looks at the past through extreme rose coloured glasses they only see the successes and miss the majority’s reality which was often something much less. What to do? Find free stuff to do.

Everyone’s expectation of what others need to be to be acceptable socially has skyrocketed while their expectations of what they themselves need to deliver has bottomed out. In dating women only want perfect looking and acting males of higher status and higher income (so much for income inequality) who bring in the majority of the income while also doing at least 50% of the housework. Men expect barbies that never age and also somehow do all the housework and bring in half the salary while on call for sex or gaming 24/7. Friends have to have the exact same income so that they can’t outspend you or become freeloaders while being constantly interesting and available while you can’t be expected to RSVP or even show up if it doesn’t suit you in that moment. There isn’t any common ground because no one should have to settle for less than their every desire, whim, expectation. No one is allowed to expect that much of them and must be willing to take them at their worst. Friends & partners must always do the right thing and never, ever make a mistake.
Somewhere along the line, social media meant people stopped treating each other as humans and instead as a commodity to use to get what they want. Then they look to said social media (exaggeration and all, mine included) to find the answers and find outrage instead.

Back in the 80s we called ourselves nerds if we were in math, science or computing.

They don’t consume fossil fuels to operate. Can’t have masses of people not enslaved to their car and its operations since that might hurt some big corporations bottom line.

When the money and energy sucking slop that currently is being billed as “AI” is what tech bros are using to rob us now. It is garbage. It will remain garbage. It will suck as much money as possible into the tech bros companies and waste energy to the Nth degree while doing it. It is a the biggest con / scam of this century.

I don’t know much about liposuction but I believe it can only be done on subcutaneous fat (just under the skin) but not the deeper intra-abdominal fat that can be the cause of fat related health problems. If you can ‘pinch’ most of your fat then it is probably subcutaneous and lipo would help to remove the excess cells.

Yes the are bad people. Why? Because they only care about their thrill over everything else. They cost everyone money when they inevitably have accidents. Even if they had to pay the cost of repairs for their car, they don’t pay all the other costs - police, emergency, road closure, road damage, etc. They willingly put others, innocent others, at life threatening risk. They never, ever drive as well and as in control as they think they do. Racing is fine but do it on a track that is meant for it. Then if you crash and maim or kill yourself, anyone else involved willingly agreed to be part of it.

My collection of records, cassettes and CDs have come out of storage and I started buying new ones. I might even start making mix tapes again.

At the break table talking another language, no problem. Needing it to be able to understand their job, problem. Unless your clients are mostly Spanish it is their needs that are being overlooked. They need someone fully competent in an official language. If nurses revert to Spanish when they don’t understand things, then their manager doesn’t know what it is that they are having a problem with, unless someone is translating for her. She could end up in trouble for putting someone on a task that they are not able to do. I don’t immediately see it a a racist problem (although it could be) but a work safety problem.

For both men and women, the type of hair style matters. Long flowing can go 6 months between cuts. The shorter the cut and the more detail the more often it needs to be cut. 6 weeks is often the case for short cuts. If shaved parts, every week might be necessary. In warm weather more often than in cold weather.
