Yes, the serial port, bba and memory card all share the exi bus, so from a software standpoint they can all be communicated with via the same bus interface ( but hardware commands/communication is hardware specific ofc ) For more info :

Exactly. Thats why i made the pcb design for the connector, everything is measured out and the pinout is written out too.
It also is connected to the exi bus, which is shared with the memory cards…

Ive been aware of a few ethernet projects for gamecube and none of them makes sense to me.
All of them use a custom chip/interface and require special code in software.
On top of that, none of them have merged the code into libogc (the open source gamecube homebrew library i help maintain ).
If i were to make a project like this, i’d use a mcu ( pi zero? ) together with a ethernet controller. The mcu would expose the same interface the official bba would, so even games could use it out of the box.
I even made a pcb design for extrems so he had the pcb pinouts just like the official bba to work sonething out of.

Depending on the angle, yes. If its for repairs, then yes. If its for product (manufactoring) improvements, then no. Im a software developer that often collaborates with other teams of open source software. I report, and sometimes fix, bugs so it improves the overal product for everyone. I wouldnt put that under right to repair, as it has nothing to do with repairing it yourself and more with improving a product for everyone by tackling a problem with the product at the source.

Imo open source doesnt explicitly mean “you can build it yourself”
What it does stand for is that incase of issues it can be looked at and resolved. Be it finding the broken component, or looking at the designs and reporting the fault. Both of which improve the thing that is open sourced.
As an example : the framework laptop. Its partly open source, so in case of issues i could bring it to a repairshop which then can easily look at the designs, and figure the fault.
Or what i did with my home server sbc : get the schematics, figure out a manufactoring fault ( cracked solder on pci lane ), fix it and report it to the manufacturer ( which then investigated if it was a one off or if a solder type change was needed ).

It all depends on your needs tbh. I personally think the framework mobo is perfect for a powerful 24/7 server. Smb, router, media center, …

I personally dont need something like that and just have an sbc running pihole and smb 24/7 ( +/- 8w@230v power usage )

What im about to say applies to belgium, and i dont know about other countries or companies or how it works if a company from another country has a base in belgium, so take everything i say with a pinch of salt.

In belgium every company with more than x amount of employees ( i think its either 50 or 100 ) must have a worker council meeting every month and have worker council member votings every few years, to select what employee will join said meetings with a select few people of the heads of the company. The members are people who have joined a union ( which is just being registered, has nothing to do with your job and which union depends on the job and your political views. Each union is large enough to cause mayhem and force talks ) and have put themselves forward to be in those meetings.
After said voting, the representatives are selected and join the meetings.
While the representative is selected him or her can not be easily fired or laid off. While they are registered at a union they also can not be fired without a valid reason, as that would get the company investigated.

So overall here what union doesnt mean that much, but the process is more important.

I would also like to point out that i love this whole thing, even if ive worked with a complete asshat that was the workers representative and seriously needed to be fired because he did his actual job (handyman) terribly. The fact he was in those meetings meant the workers were represented and im sure he did that part right as he kept being voted for.

They have released multiple new mainboards for the framework 13 which upgraded the cpu. This is a new mainboard with the latest intel cpus. They have always allowed everyone to just buy the board so they can upgrade their existing framework 13’s, thats their whole stick : modularity.
This time they also have a new screen panel and battery you could get to upgrade your system.

Also obviously new systems can be bought with the new hardware from the get go too.

I have a framework 16 that my boss got for me. Im a trial to see if we can save money by going framework instead of dell for the laptops developers use as things like the ports on the side, batteries and mainboards are easily replaced and upgraded. No need to waste +2600 euro every 3 years per laptop either if we can just swap the mainboard. They didnt want to finance the gpu, but when the laptop is mine after 3 years i will probably get the gpu for it :)
(In a framework 16 a gpu can be plugged in or replaced. Framework 13’s always use integrated gpu )

I can understand with what youre saying, and to each their own tastes. However, id like to point out that asus tried to get them to pay 200$ for something that wasnt broken is something that is relevant to us as consumers. Specially since they started the investigation after a lot of people started mailing GN about their issues and… questionable practices
