Most of those options are the traditional text-based, “page” based type notes. There really aren’t that many options in terms of competition to something like OneNote though, where the “page” isnt a fixed size, and supports more than just plain text such as handwritten text, or images, or stuff that doesnt necessarily fit in a neat little square.

Dont get me wrong, there are some fantastic note-taking apps out there that are dead simple to use, but if you’re looking specifically for something like OneNote, then again, super limited options.

Why though? Why go through the trouble for zero benefit? Not like you’re going to get the support contract that’s tied to these paid, enterprise-level versions.

No real harm, but it’s one more account to manage/worry about.

Flipside is that relying on a singular account is also bad, as now it’s a single point of failure in regards to security.

Saw the headline, came in thinking “I know there’s a federated version, but can’t remember the name” and BAM! there it is; Abidan in with the save!

The only news I care to hear about people wealthy enough to throw away others’ year’s salary for trends like this… is if and when they get punted square in the nuts.

So far, it’s been slow news on that front.

<laughs in massive data breaches> Better buckle up Buttercup, because “being in a database” is a reality. Thanks to data breaches such as Equifax, pretty much every US citizen and all their important details are available in numerous databases.

We willingly purchase devices that listen and watch our every move… to be added to private, corporate databases that get sold around like cheap prostitutes. At least with government databases, voting gives at least a teeny, tiny modicum of control.

And even better, while I cant name specific breaches in relation to global populations, it’s a safe bet most everyone else is compromised as well.

On the bright side, at least it makes random identity theft occurring to any one particular individual akin to winning the PowerBall.

Now would probably be a good time to mention private trackers. GGn usually has everything, isn’t too hard to maintain good standing, and has a relatively decent community.

Everyone claiming to be nice is living a lie and ignoring that everything everyone does ever is essentially motivated by their own self-interests.

Recognizing that makes it a hell of a lot easier to deal with people and avoid buying into the forced bullshit that attempts to force itself into every aspect of life.

I’m pretty chuffed with what we have now. Considering it really hasn’t been that long that this sort of stuff has even been around, yet the average person can utilize an “AI” in their everyday life without even knowing how to use a computer.

Sure, it’s not 100% perfect, but I’ll take “stupidly convenient and right 90% of the time” over “takes hours of sifting through blogspam to find useful information that may or may not be correct”. Especially when it comes to mundane stuff like writing a resume or things where you have the knowledge, but just not the time.

I watched an episode or two, and it’s basically the current generation’s version of GMod Idiot Box.

Mainstream seems filled with bots, and non-mainstream seems filled with the types that those in the mainstream would rather not put up with. <shrug>

It’s like if the Craigslist guy was like “You know what, I think I’m going to open my own outdoor store”. I like the little link to the page about his car. No bragging, no showing off… just a “Hey, this is my car. These are it’s specifications. Check it out.”

Could probably buy something from the site, and request the owner sell it to you only after going out for a beer together, and it’d probably work.

The “free speech” instances are just cesspools of a different shade. Sticking to any one singular platform, you’ll eventually notice them start to slide towards a groupthink/echochamber of sorts, regardless of the focus of the instance.

Easiest way is to just browse multiple instances of different types. At least the unhinged insanity of each side cancels each other out for the most part.

Multiple copies from multiple sources, strip down to just text, run a comparison. Won’t tell you if you have a “perfect” copy, only whether or not what you have matches what is published. Remember that even when purchasing, books often have typos and minor errors.
