I am just asking for better alternatives.

Ground News is not a news source.

They are fully paywalled, I can’t even read a sample of their articles. :(

Currently, I follow https://www.thecity.nyc for local news.

They show ads in public channels with high amount of users.

While I rather use more secure apps for following public channels, sadly they don’t exist on other platforms.

I believe not, the foss release will make the app run in the background to check for notifications.

But unless we are talking about very few non-profit news organizations, you have to choose one of them.

The question assumes that you will have to experience whatever you choose, so without ad blocking, what would you choose?
