seeing your post then this scumbag back to back really hits…: https://lemmy.ml/post/19412006
Hell yeah to those websites that still publish RSS feeds, though
The one caveat to building is if you build a PC and a single component is faulty, you are now responsible for determining which component is to get the RMA done. That can be a big hassle. One time for me it was actually two different components that needed to be replaced by the manufacturers, and that was a pain to figure out.
Any computer mouse, frankly.
The sad thing is when I bought my first gaming mouse in the mid 2000s it was a Razer and that thing ran great for almost 10 years. I only replaced it because after handling it for that many years it was worn and kinda gross.
I replaced it with a Razer that went sure enough went faulty after a year. I then tried other brands (name and no-name). I’ve never had a mouse last me 18 months before it started to go faulty. It really feels like they all colluded a planned obsolescence. Even my current mouse, a Zowie FK3-C, has begun to drop the mouse input when i click and hold the left button. I bought this in June 2023!!
I still like the Zowie a lot, it has great features like a button to toggle the refresh rate without the need for installing dumb software to set it. But it’s been 10 years of this shit, for me, so I will never recommend a computer mouse to anyone. Just use the one that you get from your office job, I guess.
I have about 24TB, lots of stuff backed up over many years, and not all of it pirated. In making backups over such a long period of time, I’ve actually managed to make redundant backups, so a recent project of mine is to just go to my NAS and organize, consolidate, and otherwise delete things I don’t actually wish to keep. I’ve saved a couple TBs and I hope to free up a few more TBs.
There are numerous occasions where someone has a lingering question on Reddit that I see and know the answer to. It’s too bad it’s on Reddit because I no longer contribute to that website, and refuse to.
and couldn’t put it back together ever again.
I did this to my X201. Somehow i have like 7 screws that I couldn’t find where they belonged (even though I tried to document each screw). I also broke part of the bezel. So I did put it back together again, but with poor structural integrity. The thing still works but I do not use it. Sadly that era of laptops just run too warm and the fans are too noisy.
I think the Thinkpad X130e with the AMD E-240 CPU. That processor, really, was the bad part. Every little single thing you wanted to do was absolutely CPU-bound, even when it was contemporary and new (c. 2011-2012). The amount of time I wasted waiting for the fully hammered CPU to do literally anything was too much.
I bought the laptop used because I figured a tiny Linux laptop would be great. And other aspects of it were fine, such as the display, keyboard, trackpad, build quality, etc. But that stupid CPU totally killed the device. Such a regret.
Two Best Friends Play / Super Best Friends. Because some of them stopped being best friends and only pushed forward through a professional working relationship until even that became too strained for them to continue. 😥
In terms of the gaming ones you listed I only watched markiplier. Specifically the FNAF stuff. That was a lot of fun almost 10 years ago when it was novel and new. But now the genre is so played out and the whole “scariest game scream at the camera” thing, while maybe based on something genuine then, became obviously forced and annoying after not that long.
I forgot about this but as soon as you said red-faced it came back to me. This “adult” became a tomato because he could choose to be referred to as he/him in a video game. I only ever saw toddlers and small children scream the way he did. So pathetic!
If my life were financially more secure and if the climate didn’t seem objectively fucked in the future I could imagine myself being a happy father of kids
I believe you that if you’re paying 2x a traditional ticket price you get a better experience, but I would really just prefer high speed rail lines that can service many people at once, not a boutique experience catered to the wealthy.
This isn’t a personal habit but flying. If I could never ever in my life ever have to go through a stupid security theater checkpoint at an airport and then board a plane and sit like a sardine for hours on end…
Too bad I live in public transit shithole USA
I am such a better cook than I would’ve been otherwise, due to necessity. But I also enjoy it, because usually what I will make is going to be far tastier (and healthier) than other options.
Just the other day I got downvoted for posting that it’s stupid that 8GB of RAM in laptops is not enough. Software like Synapse, trying to lift the load that it does in Python, is exactly the kind of thing I’m talking about.
the college WiFi environment some of my friends are in where a timer is set after bedtime which would wait until all sockets are closed which doesn’t include XMPP so messaging with my friends after bedtime is still possible.
The college tries to just shut off the WiFi at night??
Due to this it also means that ripping 4K and Blu-ray discs also are breaking a DRM which means you are legally not allowed to make a digital copy of movies that you own. Which directly contradicts the intent of these laws.
Yes, this has been a long-standing point of stupidity in my mind. It’s clearly inconsistent.
I’m no lawyer, but it seems to me when it comes to legal cases you want as many facts stacked in your favor as possible, and as few facts stacked against your favor as is possible. Because at the end of the day some jury or judge will decide one way or another, based on facts and prejudices.

I am absolutely charmed by the characters, the story, the optimism, and the connection to the unknown.
