  • Totally fair experience. I was also a voracious reader growing up and hated assigned reading. But I certainly wasn’t required to read as much as you! In fact, one of the things I hated about the classroom reading is I would have to stop reading the book (if I enjoyed it) and wait to discuss or do worksheets on it when all I wanted is to just continue reading it!

But what we have to remember is there’s kids out there from families that don’t encourage reading. Or even ones that actively discourage reading! If not for assigned reading, they might never read a single book from their adolescence onward! At least this way, they actually get the knowledge from a few books in them. But really, I don’t know what the answer is either…

  • I only use the fediverse for social media, and even I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this. If you’re a wealthy individual and understand the cost, sure; go for it! But as far as an “investment”, or recouping costs spent, giant corporations spin up servers and start services to entice users, knowing they’ll eventually earn that money back in data collection and ads. The fediverse **will not** put up with that, so know what you’re getting yourself into…

  • I tried Thunder, and Connect, and Summit and Voyager and Boost. Nothing matched the experience I preferred with Sync, but it’s clearly abandoned by the developer and has many compatibility issues and bugs. So I signed up with a PieFed instance and downloaded Blorp. It doesn’t have quite as many features yet, but it’s the closest to what I want…

  • It’s the season I still hate. The Holidays sucked when I worked retail, and back then we didn’t even have to work Christmas unlike many stores now! It’s certainly not better these days, and the amount is stores that are open on the day is insane. We can’t close it even a single day of the year to allow the workers to celebrate with their family and friends!?

I no longer work retail, but I still see the craziness. Everywhere is crowded, everyone is rushing around and stressed and grumpy and driving crazy. Everything is just bad this time of year…
