Yeah, it is infuriating that this history is being down voted. In fact, the secular Plastinian national movements (PLO and its constituent organizations) considered Plastinian Jews (ie, indigenous Jews living in the British Mandate prior to 1948) to be Palestinians.

4·10 months agoI would have said, “settler colonial state”. What that state is doing to the Palestinians will, in the lense of history, be seen as equivalent to what the United States did to the indigenous peoples.
“Infestation” is too close to fascist antisemitic tropes and while criticism of Israel is NOT automatically antisemitic, it can be.
Except that is not what the poster you’re replying to said. The poster said, ‘negotiate with Palestinians to hand over Hamas responsible for 10/7’. That’s not ‘negotiating with Hamas’.
There was an ongoing peace process between Israel and the secular PLO with the Oslo Accords and then Israel stopped the process. Israel accelerated land grabs and illegal settlements, and actually PROMOTED Hamas. The PLO organizations had either pledged to not harm civilians or given up armed struggle altogether. But Israel said NO to land for peace and so why should Palestinians choose peaceful negotiations?
Maybe calling the entire population of a country Nazis is going a bit too far.

There’s the Egyptian state, which is pretty much the army, and the Egyptian people. Very different sympathies and motives.
Hamas won the last PA elections back in 2006. Fatah tried to prevent Hamas from taking power, and since then they’ve had Fatah in the West Bank (‘protected’ by Israel) and Hamas in Gaza. Because of the conflict between Fatah and Hamas, they’ve not had fully democratic elections since, as neither allows the other to campaign.
My understanding of Palestinian politics is that Fatah lost legitimacy by supporting negotiations with Israel, which Israel undermined. Corruption was also a part.

No, until the rise of the modern Zionist movement, there wasn’t a lot of sectarian conflict. (Well, since the Crusades.) FWIW, Hamas won the last election that the Palestinian Authority held in 2006 (!) Fatah pretty much kept the West Bank, denying Hamas the victory, but couldn’t stop Hamas from taking over in Gaza. My understanding of PA politics was that negotiation with Israel was seen as a dead end and that any party with negotiations as a primary tactic was going to lose. And Israel is responsible for that perception.
Fuck generational politics. There are class, gender, and racial divisions within each generation. We have more in common with working class and oppressed boomers than with ruling class members of our own generation.
31·1 year agoSocial security is SELF-FUNDING, and even still lends money to the general fund. Yes, this a list of all government spending, but it isn’t what your FICA payment goes towards. Military spending is #1 for that.
As yet, social security is still a SELF-FUNDING program that lends money to the general fund. I’m gen-x, not a boomer. Stop buying into generational warfare. We have more in common with working class boomers than with gen Z tech bros.
