  • Personally I just like my colleagues so it’s fun to be around them for the most part, and there are better lunch options around the office in my case (plus I’d never bother going somewhere when I’m home anyway). It being easier to just quickly ask a question is nice too. Also gets me actually out of the house and cycling for ~40 minutes a day. I also get way more done at work because working at the same pc I spend 90% of my free time at is not great at motivating my brain to do work.

Still, if I didn’t have the option to just stay home when I don’t feel like going to the office/am waiting for a package or something, I’d find that very annoying.

  • Given human nature I find it hard to blame rich people for using their money on themselves. We need laws to change (aka much, much higher taxes)

Someone’s perspective on what’s an appropriate standard of living changes with what they’re used to. That’s just how the human brain works. I constantly hear people that make the same or more than me, that live in the same country as me in an area with similar cost of living, complain about how little money they have, while I feel like I have all I really need and more. They just consider different things as “necessary”.

Is it incredibly disconnected to consider owning even one yacht as anything close to necessary? Absolutely. But anything you want, your brain will take it for granted once you get it and make you want even more.

They were fighting, you can tell just from their body language at the start. Sink cat surrendered. Then sink cat got wet and seemed to have decided that surrendering is not as important as not being blasted by water. I’m guessing that then sink cat got hit for getting back up before being permitted.

  • The jews living in random countries all over the world have nothing to do with Israels actions and attacking them over it is fucking dumb and nothing other than racism.

I’ve seen all sorts of things called antisemitic recently so I won’t make a judgement on whether hatecrimes against jews actually went up, but it wouldn’t be surprising. People always look for the nearest scapegoat and attack them to deal with their anger.

  • I’m not op - i eat cheap (outside of my going out for lunch at work meals for 10€) but unhealthy. I did a quick estimate based on my cc charges in the last month and I don’t think I’m above 250€ a month, while eating out for lunch around 13-15 times a month… I definitely agree that 5€ per meal is a lot.

Tbh I’m not nutritionally educated enough to know how relevant this actually is, but I was under the impression that some variety of ideally fresh produce would be required for optimally healthy food, and that is what seems to be expensive to me. Otherwise yea, aldi spaghetti for 80 cents and whipping up a sauce without much fat for maybe 5 euros max (high estimate) wouldn’t be particularly unhealthy either and last a day, and much like your rice with beans example there are probably many meals like this.

  • Tbh eating quality food is simply expensive. It’s a thing where i wanna say you could easily save 10€ a day but it’d definitely be less healthy and eating unhealthily is ideally something people shouldn’t be forced to do because they’re poor.

Personally I eat out for lunch whenever I’m in the office (3-4 times a week) for 10€ and I spend less than 15€ on food a day. My regular meals at home are like… noodles with store bought pesto where ~4€ feed me an entire day, or frozen pizza which varies from 1-3.5€ per pizza. Though with some effort i could easily make my own pizzas for a similar (or even less if i make my own dough) price and have them be not unhealthy.

I also find 100€ for electricity to be pretty high (certainly not “very usage conscious”) given that I consume around 80kwh a month, and 2 people shouldn’t just double that since around a quarter is probably my fridge.
