started with NES games in late 80’s, so in theory I should be fine with game pads? Platformers and driving games I can generally do fine, anything else? … heh, it’s like watching parents use computers. I just can’t do first/third person aiming with analog sticks or use bumpers/triggers at the same time with anything else.

Mouse and keyboard are my weapons of choice, at least with those I’m not embarrassingly bad.

edit: though, Nintendo Game Cube controller is kinda my thing, not that I’ve played much of NGC games or anything, but I did finish Eternal Darkness just fine (emulated, used savestates, but still), the controller just feels way more natural than modern xbox/ps controllers

  • Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles … but with the caveats that a) it’s only PARTLY like stardew/portia/harvestmoon and b) For the life of me I can’t remember if the game had money or not.

The game is partly farm-life-sim, but the other part is “zelda-like” adventuring and getting rid of “dark smoke thing” that does bad things to the world.

  • is Gearbox still in terms with Epic? It’ll probably be in holding cells Epic store for a year anyway, and then it’ll move to other stores with ULTIMATE EDITION -dlc bundle, with another dlc planned later on which isn’t in ULTIMATE EDITION. Wasn’t that the play with 3 as well?

Unless 4 does something truly new for the series, I’m probably not going to get it, at all. Kinda feel like I’m done with the series.

  • Got to play it with someone for a bit, they seemed to know where all the neat things were (iirc, the murals, scarf lengthening thingies, etc). But due to the inability to communicate more than just “dings” I couldn’t convey that I needed a quick toilet break. They were gone after I came back, which was a bit sad but I probably wouldn’t have stayed waiting either, tbh.

It was quite okay, I recall playing it through twice, but the second round didn’t really offer much in terms of “value” over the first. Cool visuals and concept, though.

Other somewhat similar vibing games which I somewhat relate to Journey:

    • Sable - Somewhat similar character designs, quite a bit more scifi and some dialogue. Pretty cool 3d platformer puzzle.
    • Proteus - walking-sim, graphics are those “if atari 2600 could do 3d”. Kinda cool experience, but also kinda one-and-done.

  • Last Epoch

playing offline because that’s where all my stuff is as last I checked the online was a disaster. Other than that, it’s pretty cool ARPG. Though I have some thoughts about some “gearcheck” -type bosses. After ~180h (since beta) or whatever, I’m still thinking it’s a solid 7/10. Fairly enjoyable, but not greatest of all time by any stretch.

    Content Warning

It’s completely stupid and I love it. Essentially wannabe-“spööktubers” take a camera and few flashlights into dark, abandoned industrial complex to film something spooky, just to gain views on “Spööktube”. Views gain you money, money buys you gear.

The dives to the industrial complex are very short too, as you can only film so much (90s max, it seems), and the monsters are hella deadly. Either the camera gets filled or everyone is dead in minutes.

The footage can be saved as .webm -videos to desktop, which is GREAT

  • Yea the skill tree changes are/were fairly divisive. I’m more on-board with the changes than against, but I do think the old version offered more freedom in builds, but… eh. It’s entirely serviceable as is.

    spoiler

The “other skill tree” seemed to be largely useless for my “stealth archer” (sneaky silent pistol & hacker) character, the perks there seemed to be geared towards more action oriented approach.

Anyway, at current my only real gripe with the game is the occasionally hella persistent cop chases. The cop patrols seem to spawn absolutely everywhere, and every time I lose them it feels more like gaming the system via technicalities than actually doing it the intended way. Could be a case of “gid gud”, tho. Last character (since patch and dlc) I played on normal, iirc.

Also, the basegame has gone to -50% fairly regularly, basically every time gog/steam hosts any bigger sales happening. The dlc (according to steamdb) has been -15% twice, but it’s still fairly recent. Could be cheaper when summer sales arrive.

  • only you can really answer that, worth is fairly subjective.

The game has been in good shape for quite a bit, for most players on pc, anyway.

I guess it kinda depends, is it strictly a budget question or is this about the quality of the product? For “those on board the hate-train” the game is irredeemable forever, for “fanbois” it’s been great always. Personally I’ve gotten closer to 600 hours of funtime out of it, so money-units per time-unit ratio is pretty good, but obviously your mileage will vary.

edit: and if this is about budget, do consider that the game does require rather hefty pc to run, RT on or off.
