Absolutely, it totally wrecks us because we have no guaranteed time off. So yeah, we all get to play roulette at the end of the year to figure out who gets the PTO. I’m lucky enough in my current job to have that time, but it’s not guaranteed. So in the past I just agree to do the shifts because I don’t have kids. :/

Sometimes it helps me to inflict slight pain somewhere, like pinching myself or contracting my foot inside my shoe really tightly. Like, it divides my attention between that sensation and what I’m dealing with emotionally. But I mostly just let myself cry, so take those ideas with a grain of salt.
