“Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it.”

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

  • I was listening to a business podcast the other day and they were discussing the issue for many police departments across the nation was just finding enough staff.

There are shortages in many large cities and small towns even with low 6 figures of pay.

They discussed the long hours, lack of support, extra scrutiny of the job, the risk of injury and loss of life, combined with the co-worker shortages making it tough to find people.

They didn’t get too much into a lack of justice or too much of it. Depending on the situation. (Many on social media will discuss how they abuse their authority and then at the same time demand more extreme measures against people caught doing things on video. I know I’m guilty of this too.)

At the end of the day like many sectors they aren’t getting the best of the best and certainly not enough staff in general which I suspect makes it even harder to deal with misconduct issues when there is no one to replace the officers in question, especially in small towns that are already short.

GED or not their beggars situation is only going to get worse not better potentially leading to more of the wrong types being employed.

  • For me coming from the Westcoast with lots of rain at sea level the lack of drain fields around the houses in the Prairies was a similar moment for me when I was looking at homes for a move many years ago. Their drain spouts just run out into the yard above the ground. It was a what the heck is going on here?

Their basements are also fully enclosed under ground. On the coast we require a secondary drain field just for the down spouts and the basements are only halfway in the ground so it was very strange to me.

  • Laugh as we might just because the health affects are not immediate versus long term doesn’t mean there isn’t ramifications.

Alcohol will mess you up in the short term and in the long term in more ways than one especially for those that abuse it.

Oddly one of those ways mimics over consumption of sugar.

But not to worry just like the culture of alcohol and tobacco had us convinced that there are no health issues at all to worry about, it’s the same mate for those operating on massive rushes of sugar and caffeine in energy drinks.

They might not appear mentally drunk but rest assured their bodies are…

  • I’ve not been in a McDonald’s in decades. Nice to see? I vaguely recall fountains in there but I’m left wondering how much sugar water does one need? Diabetes in a cup anyone?

Add what the fluid does to interfere with proper food digestion no wonder so many are so sickly and overweight.

I wish like financial literacy they taught proper nutritional health that served the public versus the corporations.

They have these sickly consumers screaming government over reach when they try to curb these products with regulations trying to convince everyone, they are just weak and they should be able to override these rewards centers that have been hijacked in the brain with willpower.

Meanwhile at the same time these groups then desire the strong arm of the law to come down very hard on drug addicts when they are just another form of a addict but a less severe form that is functioning somewhat.

It’s a quite the duality to witness. Humans are interesting…

  • I seen a bit of this interview yesterday. The article doesn’t cover it all. As soon as these 2 knuckleheads started spewing airports and it was Biden that said this I was confused as this was something Trump said a few years back. Didn’t they know? They ride the media for skewing things and they weren’t even aware of how Trump was called out in the same media for this some time back.

Below this fellow breaks down the double standard in more detail than the article does. It covers how Rogan and his Guest said no one should listen to Biden and how he is unfit for office due to this airport thing. Then when the producer points out to Rogan that Biden is referring to what Trump previously said, it wasn’t a big deal all of a sudden to Rogan and the guest.

Trump gets a “whoopsie doodle” pass and Trump is still the better choice in his mind I’m sure. Not saying Biden is a gem of a rose but with how hard the right are trying to pin anything on Biden and failing, Trump is still a rotten to the core choice for endless reasons.

  • This seems to be the model I’ve witnessed with many apps over the years. Free at first to get traction and users, then ads, then pay one time fee to get rid of ads, then subscription to keep using the app.

Then there are those that wouldn’t even pay a single fee and get upset at the thought as everything should be free.

The part that is upsetting is the contributions the early community made is monetized when they were they there for the benefit of the community.

I do see there are costs to maintaining and updating these apps so I can understand a need to keep revenue flowing for these future costs. The one time payment is a hell of a deal for years with updates to accommodate the revisions needed for each system update let alone functionality improvements.

In the old days we would buy software for our PC and that was it. There wasn’t really any updates or further support for newer versions of Windows. The software would become very insecure or just stop functioning altogether with enough changes to windows.

It’s hard to find the right balance. I know I only want to pay once, or heck never, but I want these upgrades and updates too.
