  • Of course, crime is higher in a more unequal, less stable country. And guns are not the only means of committing crime. But the difference that guns make is noticeable when comparing to countries that share a similar HDI, that are stable and have lower reason to commit crime. That’s why I mentioned Britain earlier, as it’s one of the more similar countries to the US. I do concede that whilst gun deaths are higher in America relative to Western Europe, perchance a large proportion of the difference (but certainly not all) can be attributed to the more aggressive culture.
