  • She posted about this. Basically the party aparatchiks came to her house and told her to stop her “subversive” activities (posting on YouTube, talking about devices useful to protestors, mentioning being a lesbian in public media) or she would not like the consequences. She said she would leave the country entirely, except her romantic partner cannot leave (I assume this is due to political travel restrictions or family reasons).

I think her content was awesome and it showed someone defying expectations of who can do product design, fabrication, electrical engineering, etc.

China should very much get roasted for silencing speech.

  • Superman 64.

Weeks and months of hype (the era of print gaming journalism), Blockbuster stocking 100 copies on launch day for “guaranteed availability” etc.

Then I finally popped the cart in, and this thing was so bad it just defied all logic. Horrific controls, shitty graphics, unclear user interface and objectives, terrible draw distance. Timed level segments and insane difficulty.

There might be “worse” games but I have never been more disappointed in a release than Superman 64.

  • Whether you’re left, right, or center, focus on becoming ungovernable.

If you build up your local community and supporting institutions, and commit to ignoring unjust laws, you can greatly minimize the degree to which anything at the federal level impacts you.

This involves a lot of self sufficiency and privacy efforts that many are resistent to because of the loss of convenience, but it is well worth it.

  • MetalJesusRocks for some “hidden gems” type of content.

MVG for technical or development deepdives.

    Karl Jobst for speedrunning content.

Retrogamecorps, Taki Udon, Wulff Den, and ETA Prime for emulation.

All those channels cover various content besides just N64, but they’ve made some of the best N64 game related content.

  • This summarizes it pretty well. Two things can be true at once. Reddit sucks ass and I haven’t gone back since the API changes. Simultaneously, the default Lemmy experience is extremely offputting to all but certain subcultures. Not everyone is a antiwork activist, Arch Linux evangelist, open socialist, or actively transitioning. Totally fine that all these groups have their communities, but it gets kinda old seeing 90% of the feed filled with these topics.

  • I enjoyed a lot of the game objectives… Automating the farm, going to the bottom of the mine and the desert thing, completing the community center, courting a spouse etc.

A lot of the grindy bits weren’t as fun, such as missing some season-specific cutscene or event and not having the exact right item, the feeling of needing to speed grow certain crops at the beginning of each season, etc.

Overall it was a chill and positive experience. The music is awesome, character interactions not too laborious. This game plays great on SteamDeck and with proper settings it sips battery. For a long flight, I would pair this title with stuff like Animal Well, Dead Cells, and Cave Blazers.
