  • I agree Reddit is toxic. I’d argue reddit actually stopped being Reddit around 2016. But it’s posts like this that clog it all up and are partially why it is the way it is today.

I gotta agree with this. The toxicity in any reddit thread increases dramatically when the poster pre-emptively complains about all the toxicity they expect to receive. Whereas when you just ask straight without going into a whole speech about comment quality, you get much better replies. Particularly because it’s hijacking your own thread; changing it from whatever question you wanted to ask into an analysis of the comments.

  • The difference between Japanese streamers and foreign streamers in Japan is like night and day. When I watch local streamers, they almost always take the time to blur out faces and anything that might even present anything identifiable. It seems almost excessive at times, but there’s a very real sense of societal awareness and social obligation not to be a dick. Even the evening news over here blurs out the faces of random passersby when they film on location. Then when I watch foreigners who stream over here, it’s rude, in-your-face, talking about you right in front of you (with no regards as to whether or not they speak English). I expect the Japanese people who you see on these shitbag streamers’ channels assume that they’ll be treated with the same respect and decency that local streamers would use, rather than be immortalized on Youtube without their permission. It really sucks.

It’s not about the permission or apologies. It’s about being a decent human being. These asshats who spend the time adding text and graphics to their videos could also blur faces and hide identities, but they don’t. Fuck them.

  • You aren’t there or in their situation. You should keep your mouth shut

You realize that applies to you equally, right? I hope you do. Because this is the dishonesty I’m talking about.

In actually, I have as much right as you to comment on this situation, especially since this is an internet forum where the whole point is discussion. So “keep your mouth shut” is just about the most useless comment ever, and should be heeded by those who think to say it.

So, yes. I am well within my rights to say that murdering hundreds of civilians at a music festival, and raping, beating, and parading naked a foreign national are not the right way to go about protesting oppression by the Israeli government. Just as you are well within your rights to argue that those are acceptable things to do. It’s an awful thing for you to defend, but you’re allowed to express that opinion.

  • All you said that was humans mess up everything we do, as if that were something meaningful to say. That is not an argument against nuclear. That’s an argument against absolutely everything humans do. It’s meaningless. Look:

I don’t doubt solar power works. I just know how humans work. Everything we build we also destroy. Let’s not take the planet with us.

I don’t doubt coal power works. I just know how humans work. Everything we build we also destroy. Let’s not take the planet with us.

I don’t doubt hydro power works. I just know how humans work. Everything we build we also destroy. Let’s not take the planet with us.

I don’t doubt steam power works. I just know how humans work. Everything we build we also destroy. Let’s not take the planet with us.

All of those are exactly as meaningless as what you wrote. So don’t go on snarkily about my “great wisdom” like you’ve made any point at all. Nuclear is safer than oil and coal and gas, which is where the majority of the world’s energy comes from right now. Fossil fuels are actively destroying our planet right now, and you’re spreading nuclear FUD about things that haven’t happened. That’s not helpful, and it doesn’t match the reality we live in.
