It’s not technical and more political.
Google is a surveillance company with a huge impact on web standards thanks to its insane market share. Apple on its side uses its forced monopoly to prevent websites from competing with its app store. Gecko depends on Mozilla that depends on google for 90% of its revenue, and is today a good “look we’re not a monopoly” excuse for google.
I don’t think people want a new engine because the current ones don’t work. They want a new engine because they want the web to be truly open.
It’s developedby Google?
You? I’m not the writer of the post…
Can you please explain what you mean?
That’s why I avoid relying on instances maintained by this type of people and instance gravitate around instances hosted by non-profits I know and trust.
Where I am in France there are multiple very friendly non-profits that are centered around Free software and how digital technologies affect our freedom, who’ve shown to be very open-minded and responsible.
All this drama happened on Mastodon. While user migration is a great feature to have for users, it won’t solve this kind of issues.
There’s no way to transfer accounts afaik
On lemmy for now there is not. But there is on Mastodon and having such a feature in lemmy is just a matter of time.
Any of them also supports WebTorrent?
Not updated since 2012? How is it not full of security holes?
Passive smoking is health problem as soon it’s indoor, but even when it’s not a health issue, smoke fucking stinks.
Non-smoking area are also there so that the people around smokers don’t have to breathe cancer they never asked for.
A absolutely hate how every time I go eat on a restaurant terrace the experience is ruined by some guy next to me smoking…
There is already an unlimited subscription for TGV, which costs more than 800€ per month.
The German pass does not include ICE (InterCity Express, the TGV equivalent). It would make no sense economically.
I know people who have used the TER everyday for commute. There are also people using it every weekend to see family.
I would certainly enjoy it to be able to go bicycling on weekends too.
Yes. The price of a subscription for unlimited public transport in Paris and the surrounding areas is more than 80€/month. So if such a pass were to actually offer all public transport it would be a huge net loss since all Parisian would switch to it and start paying much less.
On the other hand public transportation subscriptions in smaller cities is much much less expensive, so for non Parisians this may not be worth that much.
Not sure how that would play out regarding redistribution of wealth.
It will just force them to document and open up their APIs and protocols.
