I definitely agree with you but I’m not sure how far they can take this in an economic situation that is currently devolving into a major recession and has all the macroeconomic factors of an incoming second depression.

Firefox + ublock origin would be your best scenario for privacy and security. Privacy because all these ads track your page loads and attempt to generate a unique id for your browser based on your loading time of certain pixels, and security because nearly half of all ads (and more than half of all links on google search and nearly all ads on google search) are viral loads just waiting for an accidental click.
Adblockers or torrents mate. I’ve not seen an ad in over 18 years.
How these companies don’t realize these incompetent decisions push formerly paying customers into piracy is actually beyond me.
Do every c-level employee in these companies have brain damage?
Wow, something anyone with a brain noted 20 years ago is finally being acknowledged.
UBI is neither left or right, it’s ridiculously logical. If people don’t have money, you don’t have an economy. No economy, no taxes, no taxes, no government, no government, no support for the people and no military, no military, no defense from aggressors, no defense from aggressors, welcome back to the age of Gengis Khan.
You don’t need to assign a political leaning to something that’s fundamentally economic in nature.
There are entire industries that are dying as we speak and they will NOT be returning and they will NOT have jobs to replace them like there has been throughout history of automation. (Manufacturers got automated bots, but those bots required people to set, align, and assist or repair. Now all of this will be able to be done by other bots with a single site overseer who, eventually, will also be a bot)
This isn’t a printing press situation where the writers are replaced by a printing press so they can better focus on journalism instead of writing individual papers by hand, this is a situation where we will have entire industries die and entire sets of professionals age out and entire professions lost to the void.
Another example of this would be bank tellers vs ATM’s back in the day, the tellers thought ATM’s would remove their jobs, it reduced their jobs at first, then changed their jobs outright to financial administration and management, rather than doling out cash to people, made their jobs more efficient and fundamentally different.
This is not that situation. The tellers will lose their jobs as well this time, and so will the bank managers and investors.
I don’t pirate games anymore because steam solved my access problem.
Amazing that all these shitty streaming services make me wish blockbuster was a thing again.
But, since it isn’t and never will be, it’s a yo ho ho from me.
(Until a reasonable steam-esque service for movies/shows turns up anyway)
Just a firm reminder that pirates get better service than the people that pay all these garbage subscriptions
I haven’t had money for holiday presents in over a decade, I don’t plan to waste money on it now. Majority of “presents” end up in the landfill or as returns, to be sent to the landfill anyway, so mindless consumerism wins again.
If I give someone something it’ll be cash toward whatever they intended to buy anyway.
By not participating in it, mostly.
Between me and my room mate we’ve downloaded approximately 1202tb this month and uploaded about 105tb.
AFAIK unlimited = unlimited. If there’s a limit we’ve not hit it yet.
I can understand where you’re coming from but it’s not like the commenter lied. Both musk and trump have court cases involving sexual assault in various countries and our adversaries are getting one over on us because of the incompetence of every politician, not just left or right.
Perhaps I am seeing it in a different light but it sure seemed to me like billionaire and politician bashing as opposed to ‘orange man bashing’.
I said fairly based. The commenters preoccupation with the fascism connection was odd but the rest was pretty much on point for presenting a theory as to why the torrent had been removed and re-added. The commenter added additional commentary to present a parallel for what the torrent uploader was doing in order to obtain more public interest.
In reference to your last line, you realize that the vast majority of the political sector is financially vested in ‘taking action’ against piracy, right? And by financially vested I obviously mean bribed by corps like MGM or UMG et al.
So, I don’t think you’re wrong but I think there was another way to do this.
A live example is the Deadpool game on steam. The original game is no longer available and cannot be purchased, bought, rented, or anything. However, if you bought it, you still have access to downloading it.
The reason? The new deadpool IP shredded the contracts with the original game developers primarily because the voice actors weren’t the ones everyone is now accustomed to (mostly ryan reynolds).
Steam managed to allow the content owners to be able to download and install the game without any problems while also complying with the new terms surrounding the deadpool ip.
This is primarily sony’s fault, in my opinion, because they chose not to go to bat for their customer base and opted to fuck over their own customers. If they do not refund everyone for all the content then anything sony has ever made should be pirated by everyone from now on because it’s clear that ownership no longer exists and if I can’t own anything, then I also can’t steal anything because clearly no one ‘owns’ it if even the people that paid for it cannot use it.
If you do any research at all into what was said you’d realize that this was actually a fairly based response.
The police, regulators and politicians all work for corporations now. The people are only a means to power, nothing more.
As a Canadian, the vast majority of our ‘news’ is just corporate or political propaganda so google paying out is actually hilarious to me.
It’s quite annoying, especially since most of these people complaining are keyboard activists and don’t do literally anything IRL
I don’t care what his political affiliations are, if the product works I’ll use it. What an absolute set of incompetent garbage.
Or the theory, given how many meetings Epstein had with the former PM of isreal, that he was working for Mossad/CIA to create a large honeypot/blackmail ring of highly influential people and politicians.
