Most of a continent is about to see much colder than usual weather. Forecasts where I am are predicting windchills down to -40, and I have a friend north of me who’s looking at windchills down to -60F. I have a coworker in Texas who’s looking at snow and ice in the next few days as well. Tips like this are useful for folks who live in places that don’t get snow and ice

My old Chevy Cruze with shitty touring tires was okay until the snow got deep enough that it bottomed out on the snow. Its more driving skill and generally being willing to slow down a little and take it easy than your suspension or drivetrain that get you through the snow

If I remember the commentary correctly, for the black knight scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, they actually had an actor with one leg in the suit performing once the knight lost a leg, then when he’s on the ground with no legs, they dug a hole to hide the actor’s existing leg. The voiceover is of course seperately recorded and not by the actors in the suit

When I was a kid my parents would show me the NORAD Santa Tracker on Christmas eve, and of course had to explain to me that NORAD tracks everything larger than a baseball in the sky so of course they would track Santa’s movements. This easily added a couple of years onto how long I believed in Santa because why the heck would NORAD have a Santa tracker if it wasn’t real? The federal government doesn’t do whimsy like that!

There’s way too much “pop-up ui” infecting PC from mobile. I want a solid-state UI. Don’t make me hover over anything to show a pop up, or swipe, or stupid shit like that.
Stop making these shitty disappearing scrollbars that are way too thin! Scrollbars are the single most important UI element on the screen. They need to be LARGE and they need to STAY VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES
These are both UI features that suck for dodgey rdp connections. The kind where you click and wait 10-30 seconds for the update. Windows has gotten egregious about these kinds of UI decisions making it very hard to make changes over a lousy RDP connection

A couple of years ago I got my wife to finally play Portal and Portal 2 for the first time. Its been long enough she was entirely unaware of any of the memes about the game so she immediately fell in love with the companion cube and cried when she realized she had no choice but to incinerate it, even going so far as trying to find a bug to exploit to bring it with her
When they do you can still play 2009scape! Has up to 5x XP modes in case you want a less grindy experience, a single player mode and a brilliant community
Worth noting that OSRS is really just a fork of RuneScape from around the mid RS2 days, (if I remember correctly it’s based on a full backup someone found of their codebase, so it started as “hey look we found this old version of the game in a box in one of our offices, wanna play?”) and now it contains more new content than original content. Heck way back in the day the idea of a sailing skill was always a silly joke that nobody took seriously, and I’m talking back when Hunter and slayer were being added. Yet here we are.
I mean it would be very space efficient to build such a space on some of where the parking lot is. A smallish parking space is 8’x16’ so take 3 spaces, assuming each pod needs an exterior space of 4x8, stacked 2 high you can easily fit at least 32 pods in just 3 parking spaces with enough space leftover for hallway and a communal kitchen or something. They already have a public bathroom and shower facility so they’d only need the sleeping space and some communal recreation space that they can keep open 24/7 for their students staying in the pods
