I can’t save money because of my home and car loans. Hell, I wouldn’t be able to eat if it weren’t for my parents helping me out with cooking cheap meals and borrowing money, which I always feel like shit for doing. My job tires me out enough that I can’t work up the energy to fight past my ADHD paralysis to job hunt for one that pays more. I can’t get a raise because of said ADHD paralysis fucking with my productivity. I also can’t work up the energy to clean up and repair enough that I could rent my place out and move back in with my parents. And selling the house is off the table—my parents are the only ones that are close enough to my work for me to be able to make it without a three hour drive, and they’ve got a full house atm.

I was rejected for a refinance that would’ve bought me $400 a month worth of breathing room. And the energy credit is running out soon, so I’m about to start being $200-300 in the hole.

I can’t work up the energy to go out and meet someone who could be my significant other, even if that were something I had any skill or confidence in doing.

Hell, I look at my mates and they’ve got their shit on better lock than I do in some ways. Brian and Marcus have rented their house out and moved back in with their parents, ended up making about $400 a month in profit. Nate doesn’t even have a job, but he has a wife (which is really confusing, considering how he looks), and their combined Centrelink payments let them save up for big purchases they may need to make. Even Carol has a partner and a job at a casino making double what I do. (Names changed for privacy)

    BUT!

I have gone through too much, survived too much to let all the effort of doing so go to waste. Even if it ends up being useless in the end, I’m going to take every opportunity I can force myself to take in order to get myself into a better place. No way in hell I’m letting the world push me into a corner without giving it a black eye on the way.

  • I’m not educated on this in any way, but I’d assume it’s something to do with either soil nutrient depletion or pesticides. Or maybe crop inbreeding. (Is that even a thing?)

On the one hand, I’d not put it past corporations to simply replant the same crop over and over until the soil is ruined. On the other, I’d also not put it past corporations to switch to a cheaper pesticide that ended up damaging the product in the end.

  • Honestly, the rabid part of the fuck cars crowd are letting perfect become the enemy of good enough for now. The sort of thing they want could never stand a chance of happening. Not anytime soon, not under this breed of capitalism where corporations have a say in the government.

EVs are good enough to slow down emissions to the point where maybe our descendants will have enough time to shift public opinion and get rid of cars entirely. Until then, cars are going to stick around, best thing to do is compromise for now, and use the time bought to have a chance of getting everything you want later.

  • Cook all your meals in advance. Pasta, potato gem casserole, and a Thai red curry can give you roughly two weeks of lunches and dinners if you alternate well. You can add breakfast bowls of eggs, cubed ham, and potatoes and they’ll keep for a week, minimum (I don’t know how long exactly because a dozen eggs gets me six meals).

I usually pay around $50 every two weeks for food, plus a bit more if I’m running low on coffee or milk.

It’s the kind of thing that happens when a space gets big - the original purpose and culture of that space is gradually diluted and overwritten by what’s popular until it’s been washed away completely and is no different than what it was trying to distinguish itself from.

Frankly, it’s a phenomenon that I think the world could do without, but I can’t do much about it until the next harvest blood moon, when my powers are at their peak.

  • Yeah, but it tastes off, like… there’s a very strong taste of chemicals and plastic in modern humans that is sort of covered up by the vague flavour of what the person tends to eat, but it’s just not covered in lab-grown stuff.

It’s still a hell of a lot better than starving or eating a junkie. Quick side note: meth does not work the same on vampires as on humans. Don’t know whether it’s because of the blood mixed with it or some sort of biological difference, but it tends to make a mess.
