I mean, those weren’t just fireworks making noise in America’s major liberal cities last night. The blue cities are drowning in guns. That why those cities want regulations to dial shit down.

That said, it’s not like the left leaning cities are hurting for guns. There is a reason the left wants gun control.

And the strong push against gun control isn’t a 200 hundred year old thing. It’s a 40-50 year old thing. The NRA used to be about responsible gun ownership, not saving up for the fallout wasteland.

Apple pulled out of the country after the invasion of Ukraine, but they left the AppStore up for people with existing hardware. Since they have a walled garden, if they kill the AppStore, they would also be killing access to things that Russian dissenters and refugees would need access to.

Thing is, if they kill the App Store entirely, they also fuck over Russians that already have iPhones and are fleeing the country, and or dissenting the government.

Looks like they’re trying to leave as much of the App Store as available as possible. That said, at some point the government censorship will become so bad that they might need to pull the plug entirely.

And that said, if they allowed proper side loading, this wouldn’t be an issue. They could just peace out entirely.

The real answer is to let people load apps from outside of the App Store.

If you’re going to run an AppStore, you’re going to be subject to the laws of every country, and you’ll have to segment it by region.

TL;DR: they stopped selling hardware in Russia, but people still find a way to import it.

It also looks like they are still maintaining Russia’s region in the AppStore.

Sorry, long day and I’m pretty tired. I mistook “comm” as communications, not community.

A couple of thoughts on the timeliness critique.

One of the big reasons that the removals, reports and comms take forever is because the mod tools are trash. People simply don’t see the notifications until they log in to the web app and look in the header.

Another reason that stuff takes forever is because people don’t volunteer to mod. Lemmy world videos has had requests for moderators out for weeks. Next to know one wants to volunteer their time to help the community.

If we want fast moderation, we need more eyes. Especially since Lemmy doesn’t really do a great job of sending notifications.

I believe an Apple Store / Authorized Repair Shop can also do it. Pain in the ass, but it is another option.

You can update the firmware with a Mac or iPad.

You can also get them updated at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store.

I keep thinking that I’ll install flow meter with my Rachio system so that I can catch leaks. Irrigation systems kind of like classic cars - they require constant maintenance, and shit often breaks. And since I water at night, I often miss major leaks until it’s too late.

As for valve covers, your best bet is just to Google stuff and do some image or shopping searches. Most are pretty ugly, but some fake rocks and fake logs exist.

IMHO, that Eastland article’s last paragraph explains why people know about the Titanic. It was a bit glitzy boat full of important and influential rich folks. One of the world’s richest men died on that boat.
