Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Choosing to not to help your friends dying child doesn't make you an asshole
112·5 days agowhen Peter Parker said “I missed the part where that’s my problem”, that was meant to be a bad thing
But it’s not a “bad thing”. Some things are objectively not your problem just because you CAN help someone in need doesn’t mean you HAVE to, and it doesn’t make you a “bad person”.
Let’s be real: most people don’t help others in need even when they are able to. People who donate to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or volunteer with homeless people do so for performative reasons or to just look good in front of someone; in the end, they are doing so for their own self-interest.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•When upper-class wealthy people don't want to date anyone lower, working, middle class people will claim "classism", but when middle-class or "normal"retail worker or janitor, no one has an issue.
14·5 days agoIf someone is 25 and still working retail its a red flag for me.
I feel like most 25 year old working in retail are doing it while they are in college studying for something (law, med, business whatever)
not one of “those guys.”
“Those guys” are animalistic incels who can’t take no for an answer.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Never ever ask out a retail worker
211·7 days agoGood on you for becoming self aware
I’m always self-aware and can read body language, and I don’t take rejection very personally; I just walk away. If I continue going to this Walmart, I’ll wave to her, but I probably won’t speak to her unless she initiates it.
That and I try to talk to women like I would literally anyone else. Granted, I’m obviously more nervous when I talk to a woman I’m attracted to, but I don’t use pickup lines or “play the game”; I usually talk to them like a normal person.
Never ask out someone while they are on the job.
This is what I said.
If you go to a Walmart, Target or any store regularly, EVEN if you are acquainted with some of the employees, it’s impossible to ask them out in general. Even if we take romance out of it and just want a friend, it’s damn near impossible.
he was fucking Padme who was a decade or more his senior!
This isn’t what turned Anakin to the darkside.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If God truly is ‘all-powerful’ and ‘omnipotent,’ then Jesus dying wasn’t the only way to ‘save us.’”
91·11 days agothe whole “God is all powerful and all knowing” would mean that he can stop things like children’s cancer but he chooses not to.
God is either not all powerful or not all good.

No I’m not
“they previously posted that someone losing their child isn’t a big deal and they should just get over it.”
I said the only loss worth grieving over is the loss of a significant other, but with that said, if you have a child, it’s understandable and reasonable not to want to sacrifice the child you chose to create for the fucking world.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•"Fans"who don’t want Bruce Wayne to have "normal" friends or see Peter Parker financially stable don't want to see these character grow
11·2 months agoBruce having friends
It’s clear you don’t read or watch a lot of Batman. Bruce Wayne does have friends.
Tommy Elliot
Mallory Moxon
Harvey Dent
Silver St Cloud
In the Silver Age comics, Batman did have a supporting cast of characters that wasn’t just Robin and Alfred.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The concept of teen superheroes is stupid and boring
13·3 months agoI don’t want my heroes to have to deal with quotidian grownup issues like paying the mortgage, having to work overtime,
They don’t have to; most of the time their jobs aren’t even really important to the overall story; they’re just there to explain what they do during the day or just to have another setting. And as for paying the mortgage, you don’t have to go into detail about that or show it; just give the character some “easy” or “explainable” day job and have them live a middle- or middle-upper-class lifestyle, and you’re good.
