  • Gaza hostages said fast in an accent to me would easily come out sounding like sausages. “Oy, you ‘eard abou’ those Gaza ‘osages today mate?”

This is just based on the headline because I’ve yet to dig in and see why this is even being reported and to who’s motives.

Edit: oh yeah no. I stand by the accent thing, but he said sausages.

“I call again for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza. The return of the sausages. The hostages. And a re-commitment to the two-state solution, a recognized Palestinian state alongside a safe and secure Israel.”

  • Canadian here but this is pretty much the sentiment I wanted to add. If I was answering for the last city I lived in (400k ish, moderate city for here) it would be a very different answer (<30 minute walk generally anywhere in the “metro” area) than for where I live now (rural, 15 minute drive for grocery in three possible directions, pass at least three cannabis dispensaries on the way to any of them and two liquor stores. Public transit is available but is quasi-regional transit too). So grocery is at 15 minutes, and like in your case a mall is an hour, as is a major market like a Walmart, mega grocer thing, Costco…

  • Unpopular opinion time, but hardly any. They leave me alone for the most part since I got old and all the bugs are gone and I just live and let live unless they’re also around a less… oddly benevolent and susceptible… family member.

As counterpoint, I grew up as an outdoorsy person in northern BC, I know skeeters and have probably killed more than many downvoters could imagine except Manitobans.

  • Let me put it in business terms.

It is a contract. A labour agreement between an employer and a group of employees who have every right to democratically agree on some things like pay.

It lays out expectations with responsibilities and ramifications for both sides and provides a stable term once an agreement is made.

It prevents price fixing by an employer in the sense that a lone employee can have their ‘price’ fixed by the employer and their roles ‘fixed’ by the employer with no power to fight back as a lone person against at least a company lawyer. An employee in a union with a collective agreement has counterweight to abuse because they too can pool resources, they too can cause harm to the other side and fight back, and it works - because it’s a contract.
