Vinyl and cds. Mostly vinyl. I do stream albums I consider buying in physical form, just to check out if the expense is worth it to me.

It is definitely very American in its defaulting to racism as the core of its satire.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why books haven't all been translated to every language by now?English
1·19 days agoIt would not necessarily mean more purchases. For the majority of those translations which you suggest, there would literally be zero purchases, because the demand is non-existant.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why books haven't all been translated to every language by now?English
13·19 days agoNot at all. Anyone who is bilingual and who have experienced LLM generated subtitles on videos knows they are really really bad at that. As soon as a word has multiple meanings they basically always choose the wrong one.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why is the process of initializing and starting software called 'execute'?English
3·23 days agoThis is not exclusive to English in the slightest. Words meaning something in one context and something else in another context is pretty universal to languages in general.
No. What are you on about. These figures quite clearly shows a majority of Americans, over 50 percent, belives the US either stands above or is equal to civilised countries. The majority of Americans aren’t “rich, old, conservative republican men”. You are as delusional as the rest of Americans.
Proof that the vast majority of Americans are seriously delusional. Or at least exist in a propaganda bubble (which I guess is kinda the same thing).

3·1 month agoStill, only the US has an annual toddler/dog gun killing rate (as in the toddler/dog shooting somebody else).
Also 44% of Americans live in a household where a gun is present.

18·1 month agoBecause it is not so much a ball room as it is a throne room. He wants a giant hall where he can preside at a throne in the end, where people who wants to see him has to walk through the entire thing feeling humbled, just like his dictator pals does it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think school uniforms are a form of authoritarianism?English
3·2 months agoAlso in the US is the issue that school uniforms are universally a private school thing
As a non-American who watched The Wire, I know that is not true. So I looked it up and apparently 19% of US public schools use school uniforms (risen from 3% in the mid 1990s). Source: https://www.uniformmarket.com/statistics/school-uniform-statistics

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My parents like Pete Hegseth. How is this possible?English
86·2 months agoThe most likely explaination is that they got walked down the right wing media rabbithole by some network of acquaintences, and now they are trapped in a fairy tale depiction of the world designed to appeal to their baser emotions.
So you know, sociopathic racists.

7·2 months agoPerhaps you should think both things are bad and completely bizarre thing for a leader of a country to do? You should stop becoming normalised to his weirdness. It is not normal, and never will be.

4·3 months agoThey will learn its history as well as they will learn all other kinds of history. Which means some of them will be really proficient, but most will only know a smidgen of truths and half-truths, because most people don’t really care about history.

Harry Potter isn’t really exemplary of English in this regard either. You are generalising from lack of knowledge. This isn’t a thing in English either outside of Harry Potter.
