Blinkers should be blinking before you turn the wheel. I once drove as a passenger with a driver who only started blinking after he started his manoeuvres and those 40T trucks were hammering their horns for a good reason. Scary as hell experience, would not recommend.
14 to 16h is too short for a default. Not everyone will (or even has) the ability to take out their smartphone multiple times per day every day to catch up with the news. Someone who will only read it during the evening, would need posts to stay up 24 to 26h. So that to me is the minimum. Personally I don’t mind if they stay up longer, there might be new interesting top comments if the post itself stays on top longer.

I’m going to second this: a few pairs of Crocs, each placed at a strategic exit and going outside for a few minutes is no inconvenience at all anymore. For anything that takes longer than that, I put on suitable footwear for whatever I’ll be doing.
If you make a comment like that on the wrong instance, that happens, but it’s not like that on every instance. Commie instances are filled with tankies and they have always been very dogmatic, just exhibiting nuance and historical awareness will get you those massive downvotes. Also deeper comment chains on more neutral instances can be weird, but that’s probably small sample bias because few people will dig down that deep.
I also really appreciate about Lemmy how there can be a 2 day old thread on everything and I throw in my 2 cents and even after 2 days, that comment gets read. It really beats the endless reposts (and bots reposting top comments!) of reddit.
Yeah, it’s a “both sides” argument, while it actually isn’t both sides. The comment is trying to paint politicians from both sides as equally bad, while I have only read articles about republicans doing this. And they’ve been at it for years, it must have been 2019 or 2020 when I first read about the book thing.
But moral standards for democrats are slipping as well, which is why I wanted to give that poster the benefit of the doubt and I was hoping that someone could provide a source showing that (some) democrats too are now guilty of this.
Is this still an almost exclusively republican graft or are there now also democrats who have started doing the same thing?

As far as I know this is not a “both sides” problem, but it’s something that is being systematically done by republican politicians, not by democrat politicians. Framing it as something that is done by “politicians” paints all politicians as equally bad and deplorable, but that is simply not the case for this practice.
Now I do not consume all possible media all the time, so it’s possible that I am out of the loop in this instance and this practice is now also being done by democrats, which is why I asked the question.
There’s a lot of variance.
My first cat could open doors and the fridge, was a master at hiding when something was up (he really did not like going to the vet) and once found, he would refuse to come out even for ham. Very cunning and smart, but also a poor hunter of mice and moles, he simply had no patience.
The second cat knew that he could technically open a door with his paw, if it was ajar, but he didn’t realize that he should move his head out of the way. He also thought that every exterior exit lead to a different world: if it was raining at the backdoor, then he asked you to open the garage door and so on, each time huffing in disappointment when it turned out to be raining there as well. He also didn’t like going to the vet and would start running away when he saw his crate, but when he inevitably encountered a closed door, then he would stay still and ask the nearest human to open it for him. Unlike the smart one, he was a very good mouser when he was young, a very patient and concentrated hunter.
I don’t think there’s an “at this point”, rather it’s something he’s always tried doing. Corrupt authoritarians/fascists constantly try to push the boundaries and once they go too far, they either go “it was a joke/accident/misunderstanding” or they double down on it. Putin doubled down the last time he went too far, I wonder what Netanyahu will do.

The posts were in the article I linked + the one above (might be the same one, I just googled another one that has the quotes - I’m on mobile, don’t expect too much ;)). She is not using the name of Hamas, but she is calling them "Palestinian freedom fighters. **It is by the timing that we know that she was talking about Hamas. **
She made those posts shortly after the attacks, when social media was being filled with footage of Hamas. Hamas fighters post videos in portrait format of them gunning down civilians, Mia Khalifa posts shortly after and asks the “Palestinian freedom fighters” for videos in landscape format. So she called the terrorists who were indiscriminately killing civilians, freedom fighters, thereby tacitly supporting their actions. Strike 1.
In a second follow up post, she states that one should always be on the side of Palestinians, implying that in her eyes the atrocities that were committed just hours before, were justified because they were committed by Palestinians. No nuance, exceptions or caveats, for her, anything done in the name of Palestinians against Israël is apparently justified, no matter how heinous. Strike 2.
A 3rd post was about Palestinians tearing down their prison walls, which mostly just went to show how incredibly stupid and ignorant this woman is. It’s possible that she misunderstood the situation and thought that those terror attacks were the start of a bigger offensive with the aim of ending Palestine oppression.
There are plenty of people who support fully liberating the west bank without applauding terror attacks against civilians, but she chose to start applauding right after the images of the terror attacks hit the media. It’s only much later that she started retracting her statements and proclaiming that she wasn’t talking about Hamas.

An example of what you’re saying is the pkk in Turkey. Turkey calls them terrorists, while a lot of people still view them as a party fighting for freedom. But the pkk and it’s armed wing have never committed indiscriminate mass massacres of civilians. The endgoal of the pkk is also not the total destruction of the Turks, but rather the self determination of the Kurds.
Hamas on the other hand has as endgame the total genocide of Jews and has no qualms in indiscriminately massacring civilians.
About Hamas there is no nuance: they are genocidal terrorists.
Pro Hamas. Right after the latest gruesome terror attacks, she called the terrorists of Hamas “Palestine freedom fighters” and proclaimed that actions by Palestinians were always justified, thereby expressing her support for Hamas and their terror attacks.
If at a time when terrorists of Hamas are releasing a ton videos of their terror attacks, you say "Can someone please tell the freedom fighters in Palestine to flip their phones and film horizontal.”, then you are calling those terrorists freedom fighters. And if you call terrorists freedom fighters, then you are tacitly supporting those terrorists and their acts of terror. Especially if you do this right after one of the most brutal attacks against civilians that we have seen in the last few years.
In a non first past the post voting system, it’s less likely that 1 radical party remains in power long enough to screw up the high courts. But it can still happen, case in point Hungary and Poland.
Iirc, Orban had been in power for many years in Hungary and went for a gradual erosion of the independence of the courts. Death by a thousand cuts.
Pis in Poland only had a majority for 2 election cycles, but they needed only the first win to screw up the courts. The eu should have kicked out both states out of the decision making process and implemented sanctions, but since that required unanimity, Poland and Hungary were essentially protecting each other from consequences. Now that pis lost in Poland, I hope that the eu takes action and prevents this from happening again.
