Thats… kind of the opposite of socialism. Socialism, at least the ideal form, is when the ‘workers hold the means of production’, with no figure heads. This is closer to authoritarianism, with a charismatic leader commanding people to do things.

i personally like Ars Technica quite a bit.
i loved that it was an option. not sure why it was changed.
same.
I would have paid reddit a fee directly, say $2-$5 a month to keep API access, but the way they did it was unacceptable.
yea, i get a lot of these changes and lock downs suck, but i can also see why they are needed from a security stand point. Proper sand boxing, requiring permission to access to camera and microphone, ect all seem like good changes.
Thanks for running this. I donated as long as i was able to, but had to stop recently due to my personal financial situation.
“who had sex with a minor” if only we hard a term for that…
Samsung’s tracker is pretty dang good. Use it on my keys!
and reactions. Apples implementation of basic reactions is embarrassing.
Frustrating how it seems impossible to have any stability.
i used it a lot, and actually loved Leo Laporte… but the remake forced it down my throat to the point i was forced to leave.
I agree that subscription fatigue is a huge thing, and I avoid services as a rule of thumb unless there are real reasons for the subscription, ie ongoing usage based costs.
That said, I view $2 a month as a reasonable subscription cost, and if Reddit had charged that I would have happily paid it to keep bacon reader. It’s only the one time payment cost that is very steep ($99).
I chip in $5/mo for lemmy.world to help pay to keep it ad free and running
welcome to the club, and its great to have you.
Reminds me of a short story, where a girl is sent to a VR planet, for robots studying humans
There she has a… VR coffin, which she slowly learns can perfectly simulate reality, or the AI will send probes for her to experience things in reality.
She eventually realizes that they will make perfect human proxies, and starts to plan her escape from her VR coffin
Wish I could remember the name!
That sweet, cool night air.
Door closed, but windows open and fan on
I mean, thats litterally the point of federated instances. If you don’t like this one, you can find one you like more, or spin up your own and control your own federation without worrying!
I agree that the admins should maintain a list, but this is still really early days of Lemmy.
During COVID, one of my in-laws was strongly anti-lockdown and anti vaccine, while I was pro lockdown and pro vaccine.
I made a point of not replying to anything to he posted, and would curtly respond to him when he responded to me.
He kept sending me the trashiest anti-anything messages via DM, but appeared to stop when I asked him to.
2 weeks later, he sent me another. I reminded him he promised to not send me these anymore, to which he responded first apologizing, and then threatening me because my (then fiancee, now wife) was eligible for an early vaccine due to working in the medical field. Basically saying “well, when she’s hurt from the vaccine, and she will get hurt from it, Im coming for you”
Of course, my wife is as much pro-vaccine as I am, and was bragging to friends that she got it early.
I shared the screenshots of the threat around, blocked him. Havnt talked to him since and I think most of the in-laws family have done the same.
It’s hard to overstate how big 0.2 degrees is, for a single countrys change.
That’s 10% of the total expected climate change (assuming we held it to 2°)
I’m not sure if you are saying what i said (that someone in charge sending his minions to harass someone is closer to authoritarianism), or him is a misunderstanding of communism.
I definitely should have used the word “communism” in my sentence, but since he used socialism, I didn’t want to change the subject from socialism to communism.
Being from Canada, and a huge proponent of social services and crown corporations, I’m definitely a socialist myself.
