My partner is a teacher and we spend around $200 a month just on snacks for their classroom (snacks have to be individually packaged, and there’s 36 kids per class, so that’s 72 snacks a day, Because the kids have a morning snack and an afternoon snack.) Even with donors, choose PTA and other groups. We just know that there’s a certain amount of our income each month that’s going to go too supporting her classroom. It sucks but we have accepted it, because by us not doing that the kids are just going to suffer.

Cardiac support and ICD support. Those were two ones that I really found valuable after heart surgery and getting a pacemaker that exists on Reddit but I have not been able to find anywhere else. kind of lost a really important support structure to me when I left reddit. I know I could start one here but I’m just not the kind of person who is good at getting people to know about something that’s available.

I 100% agree, but is there any way we could kind of keep working to phase out retarded from common vocabulary. It’s just such a charged and unnecessary word to use as a pejorative.

Edit. Just finished reading it… Eh… “News” might be a bit of a stretch for the article.

I mean the source I have is not really particularly great, Just my first hand account and what I was told about why we were moving to a different system. It was just that I was part of a plex share where all of us were getting banned for it being associated with the the Plex share. So the plex share moved over to using emby.

Our plex share had to move over to emby. And then they were kind of going through in systematically banning people. So a lot of people just got banned for pirated content.

Ahhhh, So this is why they’re really cracking down on banning plex shares.

In December 2022 I realized I skipped seeing my cardiologist for 6 years. Did a 24 hour monitor. Apparently my heart rate was dropping to 21 bpm and stopping pumping for up to three seconds. So in February 2023 they cut me open and give me a pacemaker. Months go on and I am still getting winded. So they did another heart Cath procedure (on the 28th) and it turns out my heart is doing worse than thought even, so in the next 3-5 years I’ll need a heart transplant. But the make up of my organ layout means I’ll need a specialist, which just all sounds so slim. I am 33 and so fucking tired.

I hope to leave some of this stress behind. I know there’s a lot I can’t escape now, but I hope I can leave some of the anger and fear behind. It’s been hard to be a good dad or partner this year just from feeling so stressed, and if I don’t know how long we will have I just want my daughter to remember a happier dad.

I don’t know if you’re into podcasts, but Adam conover’s podcast Factually is really great. They have an episode called " what’s the left gets wrong about the right" and it dives into how the right is primarily a reactionary movement to social and economic progress to try to maintain power for the owning and ruling class. It’s a really great episode and it hits a lot on some of the similar points that you were mentioning with the unions. It’s definitely worth checking it out If you’ve got like an hour to kill, It’s super dope.
