If they were to have what we have, they would be able to detect (infer) atmospheric composition filled with the byproducts of industrialization. It’s not ideal, but IMO we’re halfway there. I can’t recall the system’s designation, but there was some hubbub about one where the Sun’s light was interrupted by some huge mass which seemed to not follow an irregular (hypothetically artificial and intelligently controlled) orbit. I can’t wait for the tech to improve, this is exciting stuff.

What do you mean if? We’ve been doing that for years, and so far as I understand it, the only reason that we haven’t found any is that there are millions of solar systems to check.

Please, trust me when I tell you that this is more about them than you, and that the sooner you stop granting their opinions value the better off you’ll be. You work hard, run your own business, and love her, they should know better than to try and torpedo your relationship - many people can’t manage to do even one of the previous criteria. You need to make a decision about how much bullshit you’re willing to tolerate before moving forward, but I’d recommend you talk it over with her as she might have some unkind words for them, and it would probably go more smoothly if she’s the one who puts them in their place.

I hopped onto the Reddit train late in the game, partially because I was busy elsewhere, but also because of the kind of bullshit that I’d heard about which wound up being pretty accurate. Inter-subreddit feuding, mod omnipotence wielded without the sort of checks and balances or the discretion that it should be, etc. I’m a little annoyed, but not really all that put out given how little I valued it to begin with. It’s said that absolute power corrupts absolutely, but there wasn’t even so much power to be had, some Mods were perfectly reasonable while others were practically bursting at the seams to fuck with users and jerk themselves off about it. I’ll settle for news, steam giveaways and smut, thank-you-very-much.

Somehow it felt better to shift my attention to the right-hand side instead of the standard layout and extending my hand to the keyboard’s top just below the F-keys. Everything I needed was right there on the right 1/4 of the keyboard…

No, the Shift key has uses other than for standard alphabet keys.

The Mastadon link is a revelation, I haven’t seen any duplication of content, but TBH I haven’t invested a fraction of the time there as here. The Federation is a great idea, although it’s going to take a little while for me to wrap my head around all of the ins and outs of the patchwork framing.

It sounds as though there’s a lot more to these new setups than I had initially thought, this might take a bit of reading just to pin down the basics. Thanks for the detailed response, much appreciated, those links are going to come in handy.
