  • Then… what? You’re coming back days later to “no u” a comment that lays out pretty explicitly an exception to what you’re presenting as a blanket rule. Do you… disagree? Are you just inexperienced enough with driving to not have had that happen to you? Adjusting to driving conditions takes time - even if it’s only for 6-7 seconds per incident, that’s still time where you’re forced to follow far too close to another car without an ability to prevent the situation from arising. You seem like you don’t understand that, sometimes, other people can be responsible for the situations you are put in through no fault of your own. Or, you’re a sith. A driving sith.

    Darth Subaru.

  • God, information security! Only total losers care about that! I just cannot possibly imagine why CEOs never have phones with working NFC. Cannot possibly be because IT disables it so the brainless cretins don’t scan the thousands of unknown NFCs that get pushed on them by arrogant and conceited industry randos who wont leave them alone. Nah. That can’t be it.

    … Blah blah blah.

  • Even with their recent efforts to squeeze money out of their users by killing adblockers and pushing even more intrusive ads, they still don’t make a profit. And that’s with 100% of the market share. There just isn’t a way for another company to come in and unseat youtube, and youtube knows it. Hence why they feel they can get away with pretty much any anti-consumer move they can dream up.

They just have to keep users happy enough that nobody at microsoft/amazon decides to start their own money pit out of spite, and all that tasty data remains theirs for the indefinite future.

  • Yeah, back when there was a small barrier of effort to get to the internet. It didn’t really keep anyone out, but it meant that if you were here it was because you wanted to be, not because it had been made as easy as possible to access in an attempt to lure you in and extract data through every pore of your being. Lemmy feels similar, in that you have to make an account on an instance and thats slightly harder than clicking a single button to sign in with FB or Google.

I miss being able to share the cool things I find IRL. I made the mistake of doing that once with a beautiful little grove in a state park. The post went viral on insta and within a week the spot had been trampled flat and the rangers had to put up chain link to keep people out. Just awful.

  • It’s one of those issues where even how it’s complicated is more complicated than the vast majority of people understand. We already know fusion can work, pushes up glasses and points pompusly at the sun, but we haven’t figured out how to actually get… well, plasma to behave. Plasma dynamics is *hard :( *

We’re not even sure it can be done at all at scale. It is entirely possible that there isn’t a way to keep plasma stable. There’s been some truly incredible advancements in plasma dynamics and plasma models in recent years which is great! and its the focus of nearly all fusion research right now. But we just don’t know.

(Well, unless you want to build a bomb. We can do that. Lots of that.)
