If you like to write, I find that story boarding with stable diffusion is definitely an improvement. The quality of the images is what it is, but they can help you map out scenes and locations, and spot visual details and cues to include in your writing.

Yes, Lemmy users are unusually hard to deal with. It’s roughly equivalent to Discord in terms of angry userbase, maybe a bit worse - even Reddit seems pretty level headed in comparison.

Oh, it is functionally useless in the context of the game, more of a “because they can” kind of deal… That is why you’ll almost exclusively see that kind of things in Creative mode - it eats up tons of resources for no discernible end.

Yes you got it ! By combining redstone elements you can make all the basic logic gates. You combine logic gates to make binary adders, multipliers etc… You can store data as inventories, like for example a chest with 5 slots filled won’t give the same signal as a chest with 3 slots filled. And finally you have various elements that can light up when powered so you make displays out of that.

I got way too hard into the Minecraft anarchy scene so I’ve got knowledge that even Minecraft fans find abhorrent.

Setting up bots and automation, using server exploits to hunt for hidden bases, exploiting item duplication glitches, and of course using cheat clients. I’ve even written a few hacks for a private client my group used to make.

Very useful in some contexts, but it doesn’t “learn” the way a neural network can. When you’re feeding corrections into, say, ChatGPT, you’re making small, temporary, cached adjustments to its data model, but you’re not actually teaching it anything, because by its nature, it can’t learn.

But that’s true of all (most ?) neural networks ? Are you saying Neural Networks are not AI and that they can’t learn ?

NNs don’t retrain while they are being used, they are trained once then they cannot learn new behaviour or correct existing behaviour. If you want to make them better you need to run them a bunch of times, collect and annotate good/bad runs, then re-train them from scratch (or fine-tune them) with this new data. Just like LLMs because LLMs are neural networks.

I think there are a few tricks that still make it possible. First, nothing says that you have to, or really that you can simulate a universe 1:1. When you think of it we already simulate millions of universes in video games, but they are dramatically simpler than our reality. So, our parent reality could be much more complex than our own.

Consequently, physics could be vastly different from one layer to another. Maybe in the real reality, entropy isn’t that significant and quasi-perpetual motion is possible, making energy super cheap. Maybe the limits in our universe like the speed of light and Planck constants are just hardware caps to prevent us from using too much compute.

When I was a kid I had a few albums of french singer Renaud who was a bit of an anarchist. So naturally the first CD I got next Christmas was a live album of his, which starts with a song called “where did I put my gun”. It’s uh… Maybe his most savage ever, with gems such as :

• “navy blue makes me want to puke, I hate work, justice and army”
• “military marches screw me up, and I’ll fuck your republic”

To clarify : We’re talking about differences in the codebase here. They are still exactly the same game, with some very minor disparities in certain mechanics.

The technical differences tend to disappear over time because they rely more and more on the datapack format, which is shared between the two codebases.

Most SEO is done by freelancers (at least in my industry). When i talk about content marketing i mean anybody who writes blog posts and LinkedIn posts for companies. It was already shit long before AI arrived.

Yeah I’m not bashing anybody, my wife did that for a couple years I know how it is. There was a kind of golden period where it would even pay enough to let you do some quality stuff but when VC money stopped raining the market slumped almost immediately.

I think the bitter lesson here is that there’s a bunch of jobs where quality has zero importance.

If you take for example, content marketing, SEO, and ad copy writing… It’s a lot of bullshit, and it’s been filling the web with gpt-grade slop for 20 years now. If you can do the same for cheap I don’t see a reason not to.

I’m not much into it but I think Polyphia is a good example. I once got down a rabbit hole of related bands on YouTube, I don’t remember the names but it definitely is a scene. It’s hyper technical, definitely progressive, but you’ll hear little if any overdrive, kind of like the latest Tool album but taking it even further.

Tim Hansen from Polyphia is like nothing I’ve ever heard. He even plays on nylon strings most of the time, and he just shreds the fuck out of it. Check him out on YouTube if you haven’t already!

There’s also Polyphia and that whole movement of progressive metal with no distortion. Their technical level is stellar.
