I had this problem at first, then I realized there’s so much music I never listened to before and I have enough new music between Qobuz and Bandcamp that I’m satisfied. But I see your point. I have pirated some music when the creator don’t allow me to purchase the songs.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•So how do you feel about the whole Charlie Kirk divide?
111·3 months agoNever heard of him before he died. He was obviously a cunt of the highest degree. In my country he would have been a right wing extremist and probably been canceled by most serious organizations. In the USA his views are apparently so normal that he got assassinated by someone that thought he was too much of a lefty?
I don’t care about him at all tbh. We get news of Americans killing each other everyday, I don’t see how he is much different from all the other murder victims. Because he had a stage and a following? Apparently he hated emphaty so I’m considering dishonering him by being emphatic…
How fucked up can a nation be? I would mourn my country if I was US American. Since I’m not all I can do is shake my head aphaty and think “oh well, they’ll just continue doing whatever they’re doing over there”

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you balance enjoying what you do with having friends?
4·3 months agoI started doing things that I want, and if others join me, thats awesome, if noone comes along I’ll just go alone. I’ve met a lot of new people this way and it has worked wonders on my social skills.
It allows me to get a lot of new experiences without the hassle of having some miserable being tagging along. And it gives me interesting stories to tell when I meet up with my long time friends. Some of them even want to join some of my adventures.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•18% of people running Nextcloud don't know what database they are usingEnglish
7·3 months agoIt’s awesome that you don’t have to remember what software you’re using underneath. I looked into it before I installed it, but I’d have to check which one I went with. I also have no idea what graphics card I’m using, which headset I’m using, what brand of eyeglass cleaner I’m using etc. I looked into it at the time, made a choice and promptly forgot about why and filled my brain with other things.
If I remembered which database I was running it means that I’d have enough problems with it that I’d look at it a lot.

4·4 months agoLearning the form then forgetting the form is pretty normal in any discipline. First you learn how to do it, like how to punch, kick and block. Then you learn sequences and combinations. You learn these to perfection. When your body knows the moves you can start improvising and you need to forget the sequences and combinations in order to adapt.
Same goes for all art, applied science, most jobs, even social structures, economic models etc. First you learn the basics, then you learn the complex rules, when you master then you can break the rules and improve upon it.
I like to get a little intoxicated and find the different headspaces the drugs provides to be very relaxing and fun. That said, I get a really good calming buzz from a cup of coffee and some particular candy (vespebol) these days.
I used to drink a lot, mostly because it was fun and relaxing to start, then it became habitual. I drink way less now, I like the buzz and mindset I get from a few beers, but I no longer need the escape that drunkenness provides and I’ve grown to really dislike it. Stopped drinking for a little while, then eased back into it and experimented with it for a few years. I found that for me the cost of drinking increases exponentially per unit and the benefits flattens and become costs after a few units now.
I only have tobacco when someone has rolled a joint with it. Had my first while cigarette at 29, I got a really good nicotine shock from it, which I loved, but my lungs hurt for days afterwards so I’m staying away from tobacco, never tried snus either even though it’s pretty huge around here.
Don’t really smoke much weed either, but I’ll have a puff if someone is offering. I like the buz and calmness it brings.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: Deezer, the music streaming service, is owned by a company whose Founder and CEO is a Russian Oligarch with connections to the Kremlin and donates to the American Republican party.
2·5 months agoI buy my music on Bandcamp and Qobuz and put it on my Jellyfin server. It’s great! Also I don’t need 10.000 songs at once so it’s not really that expensive, I end up paying a little more a month now than for streaming, but I build up a library of music I actually like and don’t have to think about losing it when yhe service get shit.

1·5 months agoHad the same issue, but between Bandcamp and Qobuz I find I’m not lacking much. Since I’m buying the songs anyway I don’t care too much about having multiple apps for my music.

1·5 months agoI find that it’s really easy to find new artists and albums I like on Bandcamp. I just started by following a few genres and listen to a some music at random. If I like it I add it to my whislist and carry on. And I just listen to the “new and hot” section. Gives way better results and more variety than Spotify ever did for me.
From time to time I go to my whislist and listen to some of it again and usually decide to either buy the album or delete it from my whislist.
I also use Qobuz for more mainstream artists that’s not on Bandcamp.
Recently started to put all my purchases into Jellyfin for easier management between the services.
I also have a few pirated playlists of my favorite songs from years ago. I go through them when I have time and money and see if I like the songs enough to buy some albums or songs from the artists.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Non-Americans, what's it like when you're sick and need to go to the doctor?
2·6 months agoYes, at the pharmacy, but it’s not very much, I pay maybe 200 NOK for my two allergy medicines combined, they both lasts me about 3 months.
I just checked and there’s a maximum payment of 520 NOK for 3 months worth of medicine for chronic illness, it’s more complicated if there’s more than one illness and multiple medications, but the norm is maximum 520 NOK for the months.
Amd ylthe cost I pay for prescription drugs for one time prescription have always been so small that it almost don’t register.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Non-Americans, what's it like when you're sick and need to go to the doctor?
13·6 months agoNorway, I book online if it’s not urgent and wait a few weeks. If it’s urgent I call them and get it same day. Costs about ~250 NOK or ~20 USD I think. Public doctors are always at least 45 minutes late (unless you are late if course, then they call you on time)
I also had a non-urgent matter, but felt like wait time was too long (holiday season) so I went to a private clinic, got appointment same day and paid about 700 NOK I think.
I go there, tell my story, if they need to take some samples they can usually do them on site right away for no additional charge.
If I need some medicine they prescribe that and tell me to come back in x weeks if it’s not getting better.
If they can’t help me I get a referral. It could take a long time to get certain procedures, especially if they are not urgent/very important, but most of the time it’s been a few weeks for my issues.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What does 1000€ buy you in your favourite hobby?
1·6 months agoAll you need to start playing Standard, Pioneer and maybe Modern in Magic the Gathering. Or like maybe half a Legacy deck.
In my other hobbies which are rebuilding with old lego by hand and imagination, baking and reading a grand will keep me good for a year. Or 5. Depends on motivation and how many free books I pick up.

I play some during winter, but only single player games with good storylines, and decent and relatively easy gameplay. I live so far north that I get maybe 1 hour of actual sunlight in the middle of winter and due to global warming I get maybe one or two weekends for skiing so I’m glad for video games to keep me entertained along with books.
What I don’t have any time for is TV.

I’ve never seen anyone write it like that in English. It is understandable when you explain it, but it would normally be written simply as 1.25
