Great post and I really enjoyed the replies. Mine is of Chavez visiting Castro in 2006 in Havanna, as Castro was dying of cancer. Both men were imprisoned for a failed coup but later rose to power (Chavez democratically and Castro by revolutionary liberation of the country), and both men died in a hospital bed in their respective countries in 2013.

As this is a cultural artifact I’m sure there are many ways of interpreting it, but I thought tankies were the people who think it’s right to suppress imperial-backed anti-democratic coups by any means necessary, and that it originated from the events of the Hungarian Revolution.

Any and all kind of organizing are good. Don’t reinvent the wheel- find people who are already somewhat organized and go there and LISTEN. They will be less privileged than you but if you go in there humbly and say you’re a dumb shit and should have listened to them way way earlier then maybe things will work out. The elephant in the room is that you never cared about their lives and you obviously need help now, but you’ll be surprised how compassionate people can be. This is also a pretty good list.

Yes. Power’s biggest fear is irrelevance. That’s why power in distress is so violent- it’s forcing it’s relevance into a place where it doesn’t provide anything and is not needed or wanted. At this point all the institutions in the US are a hindrance to the people and the people can manage much better without them.

This is a good answer and I would just like to mention the democratic / assembly nature of communism. If you have an assembly where the community has to decide “who will do this tough / dangerous job?” and someone steps up to do it, they will get the respect of the community (and probably some sexual interest from the sex(es) of their choice tbh). The human-nature aspect is important, as we are social animals. We already have this going on already, like why do game crackers and pirate groups do what they do, at significant personal danger? Reputation, among other things. That goes back to the warez scene and even to phreakers and whoever else was hacking before them.

Capitalism is all about making the gains go to one group of people and the liabilities go to another, often unrelated group of people. Animal agriculture and fossil fuels are clear examples of that principle. I agree with hihnakukko, the intended people are profiting immensely.

Plus getting paid a wage or depending on a profit is for plebs. It’s all about stock options and bonuses.
