Yeah fuck the system created by people in their free time for free^^ Not the corpos that still exclusively develop for windows or the mod devs not willing to think about other platforms and building unportable shit that will only work in a narrow set of environments.
Seriously tho, expecting any random mod to work on a system the OG game wasn’t even built for seems pretty insane to me :D Like, the fucking game works. That in itself is a marvel of engineering

Nah not really…most of the time I’m at least doing a light metadata check, like who’s the maintainer & main contributors, any trusted folks have starred the repo, how active is development and release frequency, search issues with “vulnerability”/“cve” see how contributors communicate on those, previous cve track record.
With real code audits… I could only ever be using a handful of programs, let alone the thought of me fully auditing the whole linux kernel before I trust it 😄
Focusing on “mission critical” apps feels pretty useless imho, because it doesn’t really matter which of the thousands of programs on your system executes malicious code, no? Like sure, the app you use for handling super sensitive data might be secure and audited…then you get fucked by some obscure compression library silently loaded by a bunch of your programs.
Then get hit with the plot twist that it was your “bumping” that actually conceived Hitler
Ah nice! :D Yeeeah just thought it’d be a shame to not utilize existing work that has been done on OpenWRT. But then again, it’s highly unlikely that actors from similar groups haven’t met at hacker conferences, GitHub repos, etc.
Yeeah it kind of fizzled out, that’s true. In larger cities it used to be useful sometimes because of abysmal cell coverage and shady public WiFi. That has improved a lot since then, so yeah nowadays it can’t hold a candle to 4G/5G mobile data.
I hope they are aware of https://freifunk.net/ and don’t start from scratch completely. They’ve been doing that kinda stuff for over a decade and have developed a modified OpenWRT version and maintain lists of compatible routers

I doubt that a server would be an attractive target for common thieves. It’s heavy, bulky and not immediately clear how well it would resell and how valuable it actually is. So yeah… Just have plenty of other more stealable things lying around I guess 😄
