Having a large country doesn’t necessarily mean that your cities and towns have to spread like crazy. Russia is even larger but the cities are much more compact than US cities.

I’d say here in Germany it is mostly a unpopularity contest.

In some crowded places they do it, so it doesn’t feel like a central station.

I mean, there have been more than a dozen confirmed assassination attempts on Hitler (even suicide bomber attempts among them) and a few more unconfirmed possible attempts. The future did try their best (or just some brave people from the time itself).

Imo Greensoeeves mostly endured because it can be perfectly whistled by everyone and still be played by professional musicians in a way that awes the audience.

This will probably not be th reason why current songs will stay arround. If society doesn’t break down, I assume that every popular melody, be it from the US, China or Lebanon, will stay around and get reused every ~30 years to grab some quick money.

I also liked Paris and I’ve been there twice in summer. People weren’t actively going out of their way to be unfriendly to us, so this was great compared to the rest of france.

Everyone we asked for help did their best to help us, though we have 0 french knowledge. I had very different experiences elsewhere in France (we quickly learned to only speak to arab people outside Paris, if we needed help, worked fine).

We skipped most touristy places and just had a few relaxing days there both times. So that might also be, why we had a pleasant time in Paris.

Gelsenkirchen and Duisburg are kinda famous atm.

I personally started growing a beard, because my skin is easily irritated and I don’t like walking arround looking like a pizza. Luckily I also think I look better with a short, well kept full beard. Beards either take time or look like shit though in my experience.

Here in Germany forums are still quite active. I have several forums I actively use.

The thing with forums though, is that they oftentimes end in drama. People really do get to know one another over time on forums and that often leads to meltdowns on a scale you don’t have on lemmy or similar pages.

This something we cannot bring back: when we were all new to this, it felt so unbelievable. Suddenly we were casually chatting with people thousands of kilometers away, who were of a completely different background. I’ll never forget when I (living in Germany with a turkish migration background) was talking to a US based Neonazi who said that he had nothing against turks, but he heard turks where the nxxxers of Germany. I mean, that was not a pleasant conversation, but it was just so unbelievable that this was actually happening. It felt like everything was possible now. I mean back in 2001 I thought “Hey, let’s hear the other side” and just went on the talibans website. Just a few years earlier that kind of insight was simply impossible. The internet just felt borderless.

A lot of things were terrible though, like “asl” or when any wrong click could easily land you on a disgusting and deservedly illegal website. Crazy times.

I’d just pay The Fun Pimps to get their game out of alpha. Of maybe Savage 3.

Dnd beyond as it is now is still very usable without a subscription. But yeah, this will probably change with the next edition.

It is really annoying. Dnd beyond is such a great product, but it will very likely be ruined by the business model soon.
