  • Based on the headline I got the impression that the bible was excluding these two amendments. As in, their absence was jarring in the presence of the other amendments.

The truth is that they left out 17 amendments. Because it’s Trump. It’s aimed at people who don’t care about the Constitution. The customers just want the greatest hits, the big names.

Misleading headline aside, here’s what the they actually omitted (aka here’s a truth which doesn’t leave anything out.)

    1. Can’t sue a state unless you live there.

    2. Structures electing presidents / VPs.

    3. Slavery is banned except when it isn’t.

    4. Born on US soil == you’re 'Merican, Harry.

    5. Suffrage regardless of race.

    6. Taxes.

    7. Structures electing senators.

    8. Prohibition good!

    9. Suffrage regardless of sex.

    10. Specifies length for Presidential / VP terms.

    11. Prohibition bad!

    12. The two term limit for Presidents.

    13. Gives D.C. electors.

    14. You can vote even if you didn’t pay taxes.

    15. Formalized the VP succeeding a dead president.

    16. Voting age set to 18.

    17. That time when Congress took 200 goddamn years to impose a restriction on their salary.

It’s because cigarettes are addicting and so when someone harming themselves says not to do it, it makes sense. They’re suffering from a bad habit / addiction and they’re saying others shouldn’t do it too.

Someone proclaiming the virtues of simple living yet the way they got there being unobtainable for anyone hearing the advice makes no sense.

They’re both hypocrites on the surface but only one survives scrutiny.

  • I don’t think in terms of optics. I don’t care if it seems degrading or feels degrading. My philosophical and moral axioms are more about results, cause and effect, reality, etc.

Go to a homeless shelter. Or try dealing with children. There’s a time and place for uplifting people, but you also have to pay attention to what’s real. Think about the mental state of the person in that point in time. Learn to prioritize. Forcing a stubborn person to take pills is better than childishly clinging to ideas about personal autonomy.

I guess if you have very little life experience, don’t understand people, and haven’t developed a comprehensive, holistic perspective of humanity, then I could see how this would be a dilemma for someone.

  • In F1 they’re usually great. More grounded observations / opinions, from either former drivers or at least people who have been around the paddock for decades. They feel more “objective” regarding what they talk about and what they’ll allow themselves to hypothesize about.

I don’t watch much NBA and NFL but the analysts / opinion guys seem goofy and way too loose with opinions. I think they’re all entertainment so the more outlandish their statements the better the engagement.

In chess the players and analysts are all way above my level, but as far as I can tell, they do a good job at breaking down the position and giving you an idea of what super grandmasters are thinking. But this is more commentator and less analyst.

  • This is just one angle:

It’s because money and resources are only valuable in a literal, clinical way. It’s a math problem that beats us over the head until we start thinking that’s how you measure value. That crap is how we sustain our bodies but not our “spirit.” True value comes from humans transmuting basic matter into feelings, sentiments, memories. All the money in the world couldn’t help Gates buy a good gift for himself. He needs people close to him to transmute objects into meaningful gifts.

I think the richer you are, the more aware you are that “money can’t buy happiness.” When we plebs hear this we can’t help but think about the literal value of things, but if you’re rich it takes on a different connotation. Though I can only assume and extrapolate what it must be like.
