Yep, EU as usual having reasonable and well-thought out laws, give the US about 5 more years and they’ll make it law here too.

Because there are laws that specify when the brake light has to come on, and it isn’t when the car shows down (slightly).

To be clear, the laws say when it must illuminate. They do not (in the US) prevent illuminating it for other reasons in any way. The law says the light must illuminate/burn if you are actively pressing the brake pedal, but does not prevent it from also illuminating if a certain amount of regenerative braking is applied or a deceleration is detected. Theoretically an automaker could get away with making the brake lights simply always illuminate (and that loophole would be fixed in days, so no one does it).

So they progressively increase closing force if it keeps detecting something but the owner keeps trying to close it. I can vaguely see the reasoning only if they aren’t confident in the frunk sensor for some reason. I mean garage doors solved this problem forever ago without having to resort to something like that.

I wonder if the “vision-based everything” mandate from Musk applies outside of autonomous driving features? Makes sense to not be confident in it if it’s just a camera…

To be fair, in that specific case it is almost certainly not YouTube directly censoring the phrase. They aren’t known to do any kind of editing like that on uploaded videos.

What is happening is the person that uploaded that video censored themselves…because YouTube’s policy around monetization. They’ll demonetize videos with certain no-no words. Part of that is YouTube and part of that is advertisers demanding their ads not be placed on content that they find objectionable.

Indirectly, YouTube and advertisers are censoring our content. A lot of it is also TikTok, which will ban you for no-no words. This seeps over into YouTube where something that might be fine on YouTube but is banned on TikTok gets censored anyway in case it gets clipped for TikTok.

Genuinely the power TikTok and it’s advertisers have over how we communicate is pretty scary. Imagine how often you hear “unalive” instead of “suicide” these days. “Pdf” (or others) instead of “pedophile.” The list goes on.

The not-so-quiet part here is “Homeless or poor people don’t deserve to have their basic need of a toilet met”

They call it a “need” but proudly talk about how they’re taking it away from the less fortunate.

If you’ve got a pressure cooker you can make pho ga (chicken pho) in under 30 minutes and it’s almost as good as beef in my opinion. Also way cheaper to make than beef pho.

There’s a dedicated app you can install on your Chromecast, then connect to your server the same way you connect on your phone. Works great for me as long as I select the right player

I don’t have this issue with Jellyfin on my Chromecast at all.

Sometimes it’ll not “remember” which sub track I had selected when going to the next episode and I have to re-select it, or occasionally it won’t properly burn in the subtitles and I have to back out and restart the episode, but I never get them “stuck” like that.

I’d recommend trying to change the default player, the player is actually where I find most of the issues arise with subtitles. Jellyfin ships with LibVLC and ExoPlayer on Chromecast, but only uses one by default. I have it set to ask me which player to use for each show, since the subtitles for some of my shows work in one player but not the other.

Also are you using the Chromecast app for Jellyfin or are you casting to the Chromecast through the Jellyfin mobile app? (Not sure if the latter is possible, but I can see that causing weird behavior)

You can also put the sauce in a plastic bag and freeze laying flat on a plate. If it’s got all that surface area exposed it’ll thaw enough to use in just a few minutes instead of overnight.

If you’ve got an Asian market, look for “Kiwi” brand knives there. Usually sold in big bins without packaging (maybe a plastic sleeve if you’re lucky). They’re sharp, but they do wear so also grab a cheap pull-through sharpener

Overall power would determine boil time, but the issue is that at 120V you need twice the current of 240V to deliver the same power. The wiring in American homes isn’t rated to handle the amount of current it would require to deliver the same amount of power as most 240V electric kettles.

Almost always this is a player issue as mentioned. I’ve had similar issues with some files where audio just doesn’t work on one player but works fine for another. Same with subtitles. Set to an external player like VLC and see if that fixes it. (For what it’s worth, I mostly access Jellyfin from my Chromecast and I have it set to prompt me for a player each time I start watching something, one of them always works but for my files it isn’t consistent which)

I feel like it’s 100% a “they don’t care,” the vast majority of social media users couldn’t give less of a shit who runs the service, just what the service does for them.

The average person didn’t quit Facebook because it was a gross invasion of privacy and FB was caught doing plenty of suspect shit - Facebook declined because it wasn’t “cool” anymore and that’s it. People on Lemmy are more likely to care about who’s behind the service, but the average user certainly isn’t going to care much or at all.

That explains a lot, then. When I was on Vlemmy before it was deleted “All” seemed a lot more populated, now I moved to a smaller instance and it seems a lot more repetitive.

It’s a shame it works that way since everyone says the “ideal” is a ton of small instances rather than big ones.

There’s no reason that standard should be MATLAB though.

I can’t speak to OP’s field, but in my field (automotive and electrical engineering) and even within my company, MATLAB and Simulink are heavily used. The reason it’s the standard is that it’s an industry standard. MATLAB on my resume almost certainly got me the foot in the door for my first job.

YMMV on if you could get an employer to let you use a different software, but big companies tend to be very protective of IP and are wary of that.
