There’s some people on here trying to make Lemmy like Reddit was when Reddit’s idea of communicating in 2016 and onwards.
Let’s not let that happen.
…That’s because maybe you got them used or something? Like, name me one retail store back then selling games for $5 just out of the blue. I won’t wait because you wouldn’t come up with anything.
You are mixing used markets with retail prices here. Just stop embarrassing yourself.
I read all of this and totally agree. I got a good laugh out of the snippet of the comment you pulled about making a radio out of coconuts on a desert island example. Because you know that’s pretty damn true.
What I find obnoxious with Linux and always had to this day, was the pretentiousness of some users that will spend any waking minute to browbeat anyone into using Linux. They always show up whenever someone has something to complain about with Microsoft Windows, big or small. Never fails, both ironically and unironically.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, THE moment people realize how much tinkering they’ll have to spend time at the terminal for, will turn them away from Linux. Yeah sure you’ve got the software library manager which is leaps and bounds an improvement. But by and large, you will still do a lot of installing, configuring, troubleshooting and more with the terminal. You’re going to be required to know commands and it’s going to require a lot of time at the search engine.
And nearly nobody has the patience for that at all. They want a computer and they want the operating system to do everything they want it to do for them. Windows just does that for them and more.
Linux to me, will always be a OS of choice for any laptop new or old that I get. It will never have a sniff at taking over my desktop because I just know that if I ran a Linux OS full-time everyday, that my limits will have been exhausted and I’ll be running back to Windows in no time. All because Linux can’t do everything I would want it to do, despite the progress it has made and it’s progress that shouldn’t be scoffed at either considering the long way it has come to be where it is today.
People who proudly proclaim they’re going to Linux whenever MIcrosoft shoots their feet off, is just making a rebellious statement. Who knows for real as to how comfortable they’d really be if they were using Linux 24/7.
I’m on Windows 10 and it hasn’t deleted anything I’ve pirated.
If this was true, my entire music collection, emulated games, the ebooks .etc would be all gone by now and I’d have nothing.
But yet, they remain.
You’re not even safe from deleting your account.
You delete your account, come back with a new one to find that the suggested people are people you once had as friends or looked at.
Gee, wonder how they know that? /s
From what I understand and not trying to read any of the answers to this.
For the large part of the picture, it’s about marketing. To market specifically to you that is based on where you’ve been, what you’ve bought before and what your interests are. So they know that you don’t want to buy or subscribe into things you’ve no interest in at any capacity. So why not try to goad you into it by using things you’re into because of the data collected that’s filtered from your interests?
That’s probably the only not-so worrisome thing I can think of. It’s just a giant distraction and tool to get you to spend and subscribe.
A lot of people don’t like to be tracked and having data collected because, we feel it isn’t anyone’s business in what we do. So, why should it be the business of Google, Apple, Microsoft, Discord, Reddit, Facebook, Firefox .etc to be concerned in what we do?
Aside from marketing, it’d be a lot easier for all of them to pinpoint exactly what we do to feed data to authorities for easier prosecution. Which depends on how you look at it, I just think that if you don’t want to attract the attention of authorities who’ve been given a tip on you without you knowing, don’t be a criminal.
All in all really and I’m starting to derail my own explanation, it’s a big wiry issue with privacy.
To put it plainly, it’s largely for marketing and we really feel it isn’t the business of corporations to know what we’re doing, if we’re knowingly not breaking any laws. Also now that I’ve thought of it, harvesting so much data increases risk of security breaches that hackers can take. Which means it’s going from bad hands to worse off hands because now hackers can just sell our data around in the black market and we wouldn’t even know it.
But would it have been enough? I feel like he’d hate the world we built.
He definitely would have. He had a very strong distaste for the system and for him to see the world become this manufactured when he tried being a part of the tide that worked against it. I think he’d honestly be finding a new reason to kill himself over.
Device.
This was an industrial band project that only released one album in 2013. This was made during the time Disturbed was on hiatus and David Draiman got to be a part of something new. Would’ve been nice to have seen what a second album could’ve been.
Point still stands though.
If nobody finds your shit funny, they don’t find it funny. It isn’t because they’re a “snowflake” or that they “don’t get it”. Not everywhere and everyone needs to hear your shitty jokes because you feel you need to “lighten up” the world.
People just want to amuse themselves and blanket it as if it’s supposed to be some positive contribution. Who’re you trying to fool?
Yup, he’s already been working around the clock to make an even more scummier administration. I think he even wanted Vince McMahon involved too. Just more cushy jobs for people he finds friend in, through his fractured world perspective.
I don’t really know where you’re getting the idea that nobody can joke anymore on serious matters. I see it all of the time, go look at Reddit for example and browse r/news. There’s always at least 50 people making punchline jokes on otherwise serious matters.
The problem is when people expect their jokes to fly in the faces of communities that explicitly state that they don’t want that crap around. Then when the people who joke around are offended, in come cries about freedom of this and freedom of that. Dude, it’s one community, cut it out and go elsewhere. Not everyone should have to tolerate your low-hanging fruit kind of humor.
And a lot of the time too, is that people absolutely DO NOT know when something is stepping over the line. It’s the fault of the individual for not making the line apparent, but when they do, there’s a point where joking is not warranted.
Egg nog.
You’re like the very shining example of who I refer to when it comes to talking about issues people have a hard time discussing. You want to know why you may think not enough people are talking about things they should? It’s because of people who draw things down to generalization, like you. You think nothing but black and white.
You think that anything anyone says that is somewhat in what you feel is against your own narrative, they must be X for arbitrary reasons.
Nobody can say anything about other people of color or they’re racist.
Nobody can say anything about other people from different parts of the world or they’re xenophobic.
Nobody can say anything about the other gender or they’re sexist.
That’s how you think and I can’t ever imagine what it’s like in your shoes because it sounds like some internal misery is going on in your thinking process and the way you process what’s infront of you. It’s infantile, to me.
How about you call someone something when they’re actively working against the rights of or advocating the extermination of a certain group.
Just because they’re tired of something doesn’t mean they’re who you think they are. In otherwords, get a damn clue.
“Lost muh marriage”
“Lost muh job”
“Lost muh car”
“BUT AT LEAST THEM BEARS WON! WOOOOOOO!!!”
One would love renting because they’ve managed to find the sweet spot that is an area where things are relatively quiet and peaceful. Management actually cares. Tenants keep to themselves. Things are relatively retained in condition.
But if you’re living in a complex opposite of that, yeah you’ll hate everything about renting. Tenants who make you wonder how they scrounge enough money to pay monthly rents with how they behave. Management who you wonder how they keep their jobs with how they handle things and allow said problematic tenants to come rent from them. You’ll be getting e-mails of management telling you “oh, package room has to be monitored now because package theft is now a problem” or “we’ll be closing the pool down for the rest of the season because children and tenants can’t behave”
And just a bunch of other issues.
That’s quite frankly how it’s designed. Capitalism favors no one but those that have built it and continue building on it.
I’m glad we live in an era now where people finally realized that they can just not have children and for it to become more optional.
Having a kid and a family is not what it always take to have a fulfilling and happy life. For people to think that’s all it takes, would be devaluing all of their gains and the people that have helped them along the way aka friends.
Sums them up quite nicely. To include, a lot of them have a poor grasp in how the business is handled in the industry. They just think that whatever game that only like, 15 people remember will make “loads of money” if it only got a remaster. Like come on, we’ve seen mini-consoles released, we’ve seen what gets decided to be remade. It is all based on what the IP originally brought to the company in the first place.
Gamers have been awfully spoiled in the past 14 years that only gamers 20 or more years ago would have loved to dine into. So many sales. So many opportunities. So much choice.
But no, let’s throw all of that away because of a minor inconvenience or pretending to care about some game that they wouldn’t have liked anyways but pretend to now like because of some political issue.
You can’t make this shit up, lol.
