Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We used to have TV repairmen who would come if dad couldn't fix it with the tube from the grocery store kiosk. Weird.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What common American habits do people find quietly annoying?
4·22 days agoI usually wait for the other person to bring up work. There’s no reason to assume, because idk, maybe they’re a stay at home parent, maybe they’re in between jobs or just got laid off, maybe they do work but it’s shitty. There are all sorts of reasons someone wouldn’t want to talk about it.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that electric blankets are cheap and incredibly cozy
54·24 days agoOil-filled radiators, despite being electric heaters, do cost less to run than regular space heaters or electric baseboard heaters if all other things remain equal. This is because the oil they’re filled with acts as a much more effective thermal mass than the air in the room. It takes about the same amount of energy to heat the room to your desired temp, but then the heater can switch off for longer while the oil continues to radiate stored heat into the air.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you feel the Fediverse could improve on?
1·27 days agoYeah I hear you. I was mostly playing devil’s advocate with my questions. I think your idea is very interesting, I just wouldn’t expect Lemmy devs to pick it up.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you feel the Fediverse could improve on?
3·28 days agoSomeone could make this today. In fact, it probably already exists, but how would you find it? Also, how would the service catalog instances without being an instance itself and federating? And at that point why not just join that instance? Doesn’t having a “front page” for the whole fediverse kind of defeat decentralization? I feel like every aspect of these apps runs counter to that happening.
I really don’t know how - or even if - the “discoverability” issue will be solved. I also don’t know if it needs a solution. I’ve been enjoying the slow drip of organically discovering neat little comms. It’s almost exactly like the Internet used to be imo.

9·1 month ago.radio is another interesting one. Your site has to be related to radio in some way. It can be anything to do with radio though. From commercial broadcast to ham radio, even license-free hobby stuff like meshtastic, zigbee, etc.
Fair enough
I’ve seen that as a variant a couple times, but I think the double-negative of the “no one: [nothing]” adds a little bit of surrealism to the format, and makes the following line seem a bit more unhinged.
