And we’re still making stuff and slowly realizing it’s slowly killing us. Isn’t that neat?
Maybe one day we’ll have it all figured out. :p

Oh man you just took me back. I was dirt poor as a kid and my mom always busted her ass to get us the latest Nintendo, but we usually only got a couple games. We rented and borrowed the rest.
Anyway.
I went with my step brother to his grandpa’s house one day. He said nothing to prepare me for the glory I was about to see. When we came through the door his grandpa greeted us and said, “Jason, take your brother to the game room.”
We walked down into the basement and there in the coolest, most badass, teen movie room, was this giant rear projection TV. There on the floor sat a console I had never seen before. The original PlayStation with the original controllers and Nascar Racing. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I swear to god I said, “OH MY GOD IT LOOKS REAL!” We played Tomb Raider. I just kept jumping into the pool. Mortal Kombat Trilogy, man what a game.
That Christmas two of my closest friends got the N64. One showed me Doom, the other Mario 64.
I ended up with the N64, my best friend got the PlayStation.
I’d love to go back for a day just to hang out with him. I wish he’d lived to see the graphics of today. Shit, if he’d made it long enough to see The Last of Us I’d be stoked.
Oh yeah, I seen it. Thank you though. I got caught smoking my first cigarette at four years old in my cousins bedroom. So I’m really not that far off, not that it’s any kind of contest.
No shit, I was about his age when I started smoking. I grew up deep in hillbilly Appalachian country and all of the kids I grew up with smoked. I only knew two kids in my whole neighborhood who didn’t smoke and one of them started in their 30s for some reason.
My brother and I robbed a delivery truck when we were 11 and 13 and stole two full boxes of Camel cartons.
The whole “small town on the edge of dying” bit. Holy shit have I experienced that firsthand.
See, what happened with a lot of these towns is that their industry became a part of their pride and culture. Where I’m from it’s coal. Trucks everywhere have a decal of a coal miner with one of two phrases. “Coal keeps the lights on.” and “6 inches from hell.”
My grandfather was a coal miner, so was his father, and his father, on both sides of my family. My father realized that the industry was dying so he left (and left us here haha). My brother did it for awhile but left it behind because of the drug problems in the mines. There was a whole underground urine market that kept things moving.
Even the poor fools who never worked in the mines go on and on about coal like it’s some kind of idol.
I would imagine the same thing happens in other places. The people fear big changes until their fear backs them into irrelevance. I’m getting older, so I can relate to that, only I vote for my kids, not to make me feel less afraid. Whatever world they grow up in won’t be one that I’d be perfectly comfortable in. It has always been that way as far back as we have been recording history. No sense in fighting where the world is going just because I don’t understand it or relate to it.
Yeah it definitely is. I’m older than her though and we discussed it. I could end up kicking the bucket or our relationship might fail and she wants to plan ahead for the unknown.
We’ve got a few more weeks to talk about it, but ultimately I might end up getting a vasectomy too just to have it over with. I have plenty of kids.
I have two adopted and 5 biological, so I’m good at this point.
Hell, I was good 3 kids ago really. Haha
I wouldn’t trade any of them for anything in this world though.
My wife’s gynecologist has asked her if she wanted to get her tubes tied during all three of our pregnancies. It didn’t offend us, we have the kids we want now and she said yes this last time.
I appreciated him asking. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s on that list.
I can’t believe it’s been a year. Damn. I really didn’t think I’d make it. I half worried I’d go crawling back.
My last two comments, one year ago were, “Memmy for Lemmy. Been happy all day.” (though voyager is my app these days) and, “Thank you. I already love it. I hope this is where all of the old heads go.”
That was a response to my introduction to lemmy.world.
I meant it when I said I was leaving. I wasn’t 100% sure I could make it after using Reddit for so long, but here I am.
Nah, cocaine good. Easy cheese and ritz too.
Oh yeah, that’s exactly what I’m asking you to do. :/
As though I can figure out exactly who you are with a common name like Hamid in a whole ass country.
You’re acting like I asked for exact coordinates to the hole you live in.
You ashamed of your country?
Where you at Hamid?
Mmhmm.
I had fun putting it together. :p

Heil Chubler! 🙋
Could be your time filter. They’re still showing up on my end.
Thank you for the comment. :)
I really should stop putting off Dune.
I skipped the new Zelda for this kind of shit.
I have owned every title since the late 80s, purchased limited edition games when possible, limited consoles, etc.
I’m done.
It bums me out. This wasn’t hurting Nintendo. It isn’t like someone will load up Garry’s Mod and decide, “well, gee wiz, I guess I don’t ever have to buy a Nintendo title again!” It wasn’t hurting them at all.
This move right here has cemented it for me. I am done with Nintendo. I have purchased every console they’ve ever made in my lifetime, stating when my parents got me the NES. I won’t be buying any more. I’ll find something else for my children to grow up with and later be nostalgic about.
I used to love computers and technology. Now I get an idea about something I want to do, regurgitate a bit, shudder, and quickly throw that idea on the shelf.
I can’t even stand looking at the inside of a computer these days. It was 3/4 of my personality when I was younger.
That analogy is perfect.
Umm, we’re talking about electric trucks here, sweetheart. They don’t guzzle gas.
