    4K = 3840 x 2160 pixels = 8,294,400 pixels per frame

    Assuming 8 bits of color depth (lowest common depth) = 66,355,200 bits per frame (66MB)

    At 24fps (again, low end as mentioned by another commenter) = 1,592,524,800 bits per second (1.5GB)

    95.5GB per minute of footage per camera, assuming literally no compression.

    95.5GB × 40 = 3.8TB × 3 cameras = 11.4TB

    Raw uncompressed video takes up a LOT of space.

    (Yes I used 1000 instead of 1024 for convenience)

  • I spent two hours last night beating myself over the head with RAM sticks. Got an ewasted server that had the alarm misconfigured, figured I’d upgrade it and put in a valid configuration since it was just off my size. Slapped in some matching size sticks and it wouldn’t boot. It took my embarrassingly long to realize that the speeds werent the same and that the server really cared about the speeds being the same, more than it cared about sizes being the same incidentally.

    I work in IT that should have been the first fuckin thing I checked smh

  • I did something similar with an old Alienware, I slapped a 4TB drive in it and put unRAID on it and it became my general server for pretty much everything. I’ve moved to a Dell R510 for now though.

    With a 1080 you could do some pretty decent models with Ollama, or other AI projects. I have a 1650 in the server I use for my LLM stuff.

    Seems like itd make a fine server for fedi verse stuff

    Unsure about the RAID question, theoretically if you have enough SATA slots and drive bays in the case it should at least be doable with software? But that’s another reason I recommend unRAID, especially if you’re not buying drives in a preconfigured storage size configuration

  • About 30% of the time I simply cannot transfer calls, the dialog bugs out and either won’t allow me to type or won’t accept the number. Not reliably able to be reproduced and restarting Teams fixes it. Done all the troubleshooting including device resets and no permanent fix found yet.

    This sort of random unreliability seems extremely prevalent among all of Microsoft’s products. Hell just today we couldn’t do email remediation through the MS Security portal, had to do an old school investigation. ‘The actions failed. Please try again later.’ No details or explanation and they didn’t show in the action logs either.

    Microsoft products are hell to work with on an organization level.
